1. O nation that unjustly killed Hussein
You did not care for Allah's rights to guide you

2. They killed him at Karbala, stabbing with spears
Plundering and looting with sharpened swords

3. And for so long he called out to them with his words
My grandfather the Prophet will face you on the promised day

4. My grandfather the Prophet and my father Ali, so know
The pride is Fatima the virtuous, defiant

5. O people, water shimmers among you all
And I die thirsty in the harsh desert heat

6. My thirst has tortured me, and troubled me is
The weight of this oppressive iron upon me

7. They told him this is forbidden to you
Until you pledge allegiance to the dark ignorant one

8. So an arrow came to him from an ill-omened hand
From the cursed, evil-born bowman's bow

9. Oh my eyes, be generous with tears and neglect me
And cry for Hussein the master, son of the master
