1. I gave advice and rendered sincere counsel,
And I spoke and guided my words with merit.

2. Indeed, in the merit of Ibn Sahl is a lesson,
If merit itself would learn from Ibn Marwan's merit.

3. And in Ibn al-Rabi's merit, merit has a deterrent
If merit itself would be deterred by Ibn Marwan's merit.

4. And for merit, in the merit of Ibn Yahya are admonitions,
If merit itself would be admonished by Ibn Marwan's merit.

5. When they are mentioned one day and you have become the fourth,
You will be mentioned according to your striving for merit.

6. So keep beautiful from a tradition you excel in,
And do not neglect benevolence and grasping merit.

7. For you have become the steward of the kingdom,
And you have become the place of merit, and merit, and merit.

8. And I have not seen verses of poetry like them before,
All of its rhymes upon merit and merit.

9. It has no flaw when it is recited,
Except that my advice to excel was from merit itself.
