1. God made most of the sustenance
Flow through your hands with goodness, O Abu Dulaf,

2. Not as it is prescribed by the writers in their pages,
Nor as it is allotted in the rest of the scriptures.

3. He brought winds and gave while they were blowing,
Until when they stopped, He gave and did not stop.

4. Of what use is the old man with the young maiden he owns
Like a walnut between the jaws of a toothless doddering old man.

5. If he tries to crack it with his teeth, it will injure him,
And to crack it is a comfort to the vile abject wretch.
