1. Gray hair is the mantle of wisdom and manners
Just as youth is the mantle of frivolity and play
١. إِنَّ المَشيبَ رِداءُ الحِلمِ وَالأَدَبِ
كَما الشَبابُ رِداءُ اللَهوِ وَاللَعِبِ
2. She was surprised when she saw my gray hair, so I said to her
Do not be surprised - he who lives long will gray
٢. تَعَجَّبَت أَن رَأَت شَيبي فَقُلتُ لَها
لا تَعجَبي مَن يَطُل عُمرٌ بِهِ يَشِبِ
3. Gray hair of men is beautiful and honorable
While your gray hair is shameful, so be depressed
٣. شَيبُ الرِجالِ لَهُم زَينُ وَمَكرُمَةٌ
وَشَيبُكُنَّ لَكُنَّ العارُ فَاِكتَئِبي
4. Among us when gray appears, it is acceptable
While in you all, after graying there is no acceptance
٤. فينا لَكُنَّ وَإِن شَيبٌ بَدا أَرَبٌ
وَلَيسَ فيكُنَّ بَعدَ الشَيبِ مِن أَرَبِ
