1. Sulaima appeared, and her rope broke in the evening,
And they equipped you, but did not pity you with consolation,

2. Salama said "Where is the money?" I said, “Woe to you!
The money met virtue and they became companions."

3. Virtue divided up my money in rights, so it
Left me with no blame, and left me with no youth.

4. Salama said, "Leave this milk for us,
For young ones like kittens, still playing."

5. I said, “Imprison them, for in them is enjoyment for them,
If an energetic raider desiring the abodes has not become enraged."

6. When the guest became covetous and his milk container roused,
The children wept, and our cooking pot sang out of joy.

7. This is my way, and this, know my nature,
Be pleased with it or become one of those who raged.

8. What does not pass me by and what its pursuit has passed me by
Sustenance decreed for me will not evade me.

9. I strive to seek it and sustenance seeks me out,
And sustenance seeks me out more than I seek it.

10. Will you find anything, that if busied by it,
Like reward and praise, frequented and earned?

11. A people whose nobility is an individual, and whose horseman
Is an individual, and whose poet is an individual, if lineages are attributed.
