1. I see you being generous without asking,
Though once you were youthfulness in what you give.

2. Generosity that astonishes,
Preferring people in whoever it favors.

3. And the utmost giving of the generous
In the shortness of life being hastened.

4. And a kind of people, a gentle kind,
Who say but do not do.

5. And if it were not for refined Abu Amr,
I would say the masters of old have passed.

6. When he writes a line, whether prose or verse,
He surpasses the age by his pen.

7. And if he draws a sword, stabbing and striking,
The sparks of his fire inflame the flint stones.
