1. O you whose love I concealed
Until love pained me

2. While the blameworthy blamed
And the youth pained by blame

3. If only you had restrained it
For love tames it easily

4. And repaid it with fidelity
Blame remains not

5. Its craving is vile
I did not panic from thirst

6. If tears would quench me
Your mouth sufficed whenever

7. The withheld tired me
Preoccupied with the echo of departure

8. You prevented intimacy and it is my habit to yearn
A branch that bent with coolness

9. The drunkenness of youth leaning on it
I gave it what it does not want

10. Of its love though it is stingy
I still surrender to rejection

11. Until lassitude shrouded me
So when I attain your company

12. That day I will become a leader in the world
How homesickness shreds me

13. For Umm Al-Ala
The burden of passion left me

14. Only remnants of determination
I cry you as long as crying lasts

15. And I am apt to crying
If you deprived my eyelids of sweet sleep

16. Then long ago I found bliss in you
I burdened myself with its death

17. While I am resentful in its place
In one whose glance shows

18. Either coquetry or immorality
She started betraying its ghost

19. While by your right I do not betray
Oaths pass

20. And cease, O people
While I remain faithful

21. To my oath
