1. He enchanted me with the magic of his eyes,
A gazelle interspersing separation with union.

2. Those prone to blame surrounded me,
Patience, for blame brings no comfort.

3. I have shed my rationalizations and excuses for you,
I was first and love is my racetrack.

4. My heart refused to forget the memory
Of the bright stars of constancy.

5. Garlands of flowers crown them
I share times with them while life remains unknowing.

6. Drinking companions of enduring joy
As if our wine is pure fire.

7. Abu Al-Qasim, I ransom you from grief,
His fingers more dewy than the clouds.

8. Over his tearful friends and companions,
By God, I do not fear barrenness,

9. Nor a time more gloomy than a hostile neighbor.
You are the best of my supporters against him

10. The cheek of a lovely one whom separation has rendered ugly
And whose intimacy returns to her afterwards.

11. So intimacy and love become firm
As she says when fortune has assisted her:

12. The abode of the one I love drew near from afar
And he visited though he was not inclined to visitors.

13. Sweeter than safety is
One who doubts my loyalty and is divided.

14. In his face are teeth that
Sadden blame but give joy.

15. How near is the beloved
To his lovers yet far from the hostile.

16. Sweet yet causing sorrow,
Grieving the sick at heart but bringing joy to the blissful.

17. Love him, love him
Though his remoteness has been prolonged.

18. Do you not see my sadness
A fire burning my heart?

19. He suffices me as a paradise,
O water, O shade, O grace.

20. May God protect you
From all that allures or enriches you.

21. A refuge whose nobility
Fears to call you by name lest it defame you.

22. Most wondrous among things
Is that one who has not seen you loves you.

23. If asked about you, he would truthfully say
You are the one my imagination occupies day and night.

24. Do not be fooled by me,
For it is either patience or demise.

25. Trust me, if I call you,
Time has confused me and contradicted me.

26. And if you are embarrassed by me
To the point I become deluded and exceed proper boundaries,

27. What promise of love can there be between beauty and I
That does not create and separate?

28. If I say you are an obsession,
Where then is what I have composed and disseminated?

29. I meet you beyond excuse
With nothing but longing.

30. By God, I do not know
If my affair in you has become twisted and narrow.

31. I passionately sing though I am not excused
From pleading with you for an embrace.

32. O Lord, grant me patience,
To see the beloved of my heart and be obsessed.

33. If it were possible to embrace his teeth,
What kisses and warm embraces there would be!
