1. I say while being laden with sorrow
My eyelids overflowing with tears

2. Thus the meadows cry for their nurturer
And the branches wither in their roots

3. Alas! For a life and faith
A life and faith are enough for you

4. And alas for the heedlessness of a life
Whose covenant was betrayed by vile time

5. I was struck with her virtue in full
And the definite news at her ordeal

6. With the wings of darkness, wing beside wing
When slumber weighs down the eyelids

7. And fasting the noonday while the clear water
Was hidden amidst the pondweed

8. With my soul, her bier carried as a bier
Moaning from what it had endured

9. The angels shaded it and gently carried it
And it was bid farewell with yearning

10. The gardens and their dwellers were gladdened
And the plains and the grieved appalled

11. Of the chaste world, I do not complain
For it does not cease to deceive or betray

12. It ruins its building and destroys its sons
With obvious ways that whiten foreheads

13. And it does not keep souls from calamities
For which priceless ransom is cheapened

14. And inflicts upon them harrowing afflictions
When the branches do not carry leaves

15. You have lost Abu Harb, so you failed
While all of you are under his protection

16. He passed away leaving you responsible
For debts that approach while between you they accrue

17. With four pillars, abode of comfort
So excellent is the cave and fortress impregnable

18. And another whose nights have become dear
So the quarter is strongest and endures the burdens

19. The guts of the young men of Banu Tamim
So patience if worries overwhelm you

20. And say to the bearers of the bier in truth
You carry one buried in my intestines

21. Stay, oh you who brings distress, for sorrows
Have exhausted us and yearning intensified

22. His brothers and Ibrahim, in you
A child whose eyelids do not dry

23. So be a protection and shelter around him
For branches envelope the branch

24. It pains me the blows of fate upon you
Though your necks claim to be pliant

25. You have been wept for by the slopes of Rizwa
Until grief in it became evident

26. The stars pitied, the flowers too
Appearing shocked in their countenances

27. By your departed, truly a great oath
The eulogies tail it or are disgraced

28. The turns of fate have snatched from you
Dark lions, no lair containing them

29. Take the closest means to patience
Even if the nightingales and passions refuse

30. For the hottest heat, what you see most
With it, the cedars are the most patient
