1. To you, for I have known you as a mother of a book
So you will not find a way to deceive me

2. I shook my hands off you with certainty
The lingering doubt cured the chronic illness

3. My patience came without the usual sorrow
And the great patience was made easier

4. And I turned the world upside down
But praised them little

5. Death keeps pacing or ignoring us
So if it prevails, let it rage

6. And we try hard to love desires
To avoid them, difficult or easy

7. They are desires that never cease to make
The perceptions and minds attentive

8. As if we, when we did not heed death
It overwhelmed the sorrowful and the plains

9. To cry for the rest of the Hazms
Their eyes, youth or elders

10. It is for their protector to be supported
And their age's preventer to be enabled

11. Their most honorable against days as a neighbor
And their guide to the most high as a guide

12. He passed as if the world had turned away
But no peer or substitute

13. An affliction that stops every patience short of you
So do not restrain your tears from flowing

14. Was not his love a fortified refuge?
Was not his proximity shady shade?

15. Was he not to the orphans and widows
A gentle guardian, passionate and arriving?

16. When troubles whispered, was he not a full moon?
But no revealing or setting

17. Did he not earn the epitome of all glory
That states the merit or grants the plenty?

18. And when no worth stood for knowledge
His prominence became the bearer's ineptitude

19. He parted from it a sharp pruning sword
And bestowed upon his people a howling wind

20. He was the leader of every honor
And the guarantor of every righteous deed

21. I say, and his obituarists have announced
I fear the pillar of acceptance would shake

22. What nights whose darkness grief has clenched
That there is neither a close nor remote relative

23. He grew to it gray hair on grayness
And despair of time to settle

24. The descendant of the fathers' glory, dignified
Tall, deserving to be tall

25. So he became peerless in morals
And became matchless in devotion

26. To both fortunes of this world and the next
He delighted the eye when he attained

27. The arrows of death hit both
And for him she could only wail

28. If only we could meet Muhammad after his burial
It would heal the agony

29. Every gentle drizzle will shade you
To water you with pouring drink

30. How can we find in begging rain
For a grave rain has contained the downpour?

31. Consolation, O Hazms' sons, consolation
For every mishap has a substitute

32. And I have never consoled a tribe before
Struck with one named a tribe

33. To whom do you plead with every anxiety
Whose slightest would rend the carried skin?

34. Upon whom do you depend in every plight
Whose clarification is the polished opinion?

35. With whom do you seek help against the nights
If they judged and you feared tilting?

36. And whom do you cry out to against enemies
If you disliked their scheming?

37. O Hazms, though you are long branches
It is evident you have wholesome roots

38. I console you yet I have no consolation
But I will not abstain from speaking

39. To you Abu Al-Walid my passion calls
I sent with this ode a messenger

40. Though I call from afar
I did not presume meeting or reaching you

41. But times have shortened me
And prolonged excuses are favored acceptance

42. The horses of my thoughts visited you
But not to get water from you

43. And I have from Hazms' virtues
Ambitions from it that increased my hopes

44. Your beauty time will prove to all living
Diverting harm is a lethal arrow

45. The nights have done as they pleased
A shortcoming that being long will not mend
