2. Or does she have with her
Any guarantor to grant her wish?

3. Su’da stood up before us
So I said, “What do you want

4. Of my death and seclusion?”
She displayed ornaments and necklaces,

5. And a spindle of the finest spun thread,
My ornaments and necklaces were strung

6. With unmatched pearls and rubies.
Whenever she sways, the ornaments on her bosom

7. Seem to glitter as she lightly strides the valley.
In her supple waist and breasts you’d think them

8. To be part of the folded wings of an ostrich.

9. Her breasts slope down to her neck, pressed close together
Like the melodious ringing of bells when camels return at dusk.

10. Her breasts stand erect like bunches of dates,
Beautified by the dripping of valley streams.

11. Long has she pestered me with things she does not give,
Until I despaired, so she left me with nothing gained.

12. Then she continued without fulfilling what she had promised,
“May you have no joy if you break your vow to me!”

13. Leave her be, and see for yourself
The state of two women of wealth and children.

14. I am a man whose shelters none can tear,
Neither torrents nor tent pegs can destroy my abode.
