1. It is God's making that I knew you
Before the left hand, while you were in the eggs,

2. Not a year passed before I saw you
Walking in silk, brocade, and soft linen.

3. In the east, your women still cry out
Under the tents with tambourines,

4. They became accustomed to the luxury of Iraq and
The niceties of Hejaz, houses and palaces.

5. They forgot cutting sweets from its mines
And carrying them in pouches on their shoulders,

6. Until when they prospered, they lied and said
We are the purebreds, the sons of the cloth-merchants.

7. If the torrential flood tested them,
The most contemptible and despised among them would say arrogantly:

8. I am the son of Shubayn.
And he would say "Khosrow bequeathed me and made me heir"

9. So who can compete with me, or be my equal?
Who will tell Khosrow, while he is in hell,

10. The claim of the upstarts, who are the eggs of devils,
And that they claimed to be born

11. Like the hyena claiming to be the offspring of the whale,
So it roared, splitting the belly of the fire,

12. Terrifying, cracking the heart of Qarun.
Do you not see them lowering their dams

13. From their stink, monopolizing the carpets.
And revealing their huts of vegetables to

14. The houses of kings and doors of sultans.
Their cooking pots boil over the Arabs

15. With enmity towards the Messenger of God in religion.
So say to them, though they deserve to be scorned,

16. "You are the worst of creatures, O Bukhara beetles."
People are but motes in their valleys,

17. While Hashim is their guiding star.
And the living of my ancestry, Qahtan, they

18. Mock with the Nabataean riffraff, the shameless cheats.
So none on earth has lineage to suit

19. Khosrow except Hamdan.
Curse upon you, you have the qualities of Chosroes and glory

20. Proclaims you to be of the ancient stock of Maymun.
If you doubt, then in the palace is his image,

21. So look to pure, stored lineage.
