1. She faced in Babylon auspicious events,
Pleasant to her, delighting her eyes.

2. He who refined eyes and created horns
Does not dread her shame and anger.

3. She truly saw her purpose in ardour
And fancied it to be certain.

4. She began grazing the lush before
Reaching it and drinking from the spring.

5. Strumming, raising her head
Hoping to regain the love songs.

6. We hope, by leaving her abundant provision,
That she eats of the fatness of tomorrow's provision.

7. Circling, taking off from her saddle
On the meadows, the platforms and lambs.

8. Scratching her lips with her market value,
Deeming her extreme greed madness.

9. As if the tatters of the winds hoisted
Sails amidst the waves, with her a ship.

10. She attained, I pray for her and she attained,
While those who did not say "Amen" betrayed me.

11. And you, if you were a friend, repeat
The best song sung in praise of ardour.

12. Repeat, for it is a sign of the people of ardour
And the mention of them gladdens the grieving.

13. O He who gathered hearts at the twist,
Followers dispersed them.

14. They sincerely swore by the noble one,
No heart with them was held hostage.

15. I trusted them with passion, but my
Heart's deposit with them was not honest.

16. Blessed is their abode the desert,
Where I wished for harshness, softness!

17. And I love after shade, to warm myself
An emigrant, kindling a fire.

18. The land touched its soil, their winds,
That I thought it a lush residence.

19. They vanished its darkness and walked its dawn,
Casting twigs and branches.

20. They exhorted me, and by my head’s magnanimity,
To pardon bitter resentment.

21. And they humiliated old age during my separation
By preventing me, counting it not fifty.

22. Time did not inflict harm upon me
Except attaining help from them.

23. My enemies, I love their nearness, as though they are
A member I’d hate to separate!

24. God does not distance a loyal friend
Nor do I aspire that they will be two!

25. My hands have tired from the ropes of every betrayer—
I untie while he cuts off the companion.

26. Had I probed the people or suspended them
Suspending firmly implanted.

27. Then the shreds of each “Ali” beneath them
Would stand, every “Ali” beneath insignificant!

28. Angry to eat the injustice of a neighbor
Or that his provision spend the night withheld!

29. When glory invited him, he stood up hastily
And carried thousands and hundreds.

30. He ran with resolve from his sweat
To a goal that exhausted the messengers.

31. And attained perfection of soul and height
Before reaching his years.

32. Blessed are his uncle’s shelter and his kiss
That mingles with the full moon’s cheek and forehead!

33. You’d reckon from his bashfulness and help
A veiled face and withered hand.

34. Wherever you meet good fortune,
It drives away its blessed birds.

35. He climbed to an observatory of his determination
The ascent eagles take seeking food.

36. And inspired with eloquence like lightning
That deafens every despicable opponent.

37. You who carry my need, riding
To the heights, its paved route.

38. Cutting what is between me and my Lord
At the proximity of this house.

39. Finishing his day trip with his night journey
The skin of his shank pained.

40. Honorable, when I entrust him a bequest,
He is the decisive, trusted one.

41. Say to the chief, conveying while
You make the listening ear hear me.

42. Yearning for you has taken its toll
On my heart—the struggle and longing!

43. And possessed me before you buy me
From you traits wrapped me, dear.

44. The news of you sprouted so
Our breaths are the sweetest we receive.

45. Every day, news that you are one
The land does not birth as an equal!

46. And that for merit, whoever is clad with it
Has from you a sure, firm place!

47. Beauty—its traces testify—
That those who narrate of you are truthful!

48. And we in an abode where glory is seen
Blind, and its people's fortune demented!

49. Either despicable, ascending in its evil,
Or excellent yet poor!

50. And no friend but one with talents
Does best that he may betray!

51. So do not ask about my spleen’s caprices
Or the ambitions of my eyelid to see you, no little nor much.

52. For I required from your nearness incense
The days did not lend me.

53. So, does this suitor have right to marry
Affection he has loved some time?

54. He dowries it with safekeeping, for if he begets it,
He will beget with your praise children.

55. Today you marvel a friend and tomorrow—
None lived having a truer brother!

56. And combat depictions of you with counter odes
Remaining while the days have perished!

57. Every embellished one, their embellishment
She auctions cheap her precious coldness!

58. Had you been found young in rewarding it
None but you would be the cheated loser!

59. And if you bend away your neck from its like,
It would come pursuing others.

60. It was your duty, truly, by
What you were privy to the friendship’s needs.

61. I left it seeking itself
Behind a folk who lack feeling.

62. I have shot for them from it arrows, so they preferred
With its edges their bygone people.

63. She filled the expanse of the mantle with their mention
And they discarded her rights forgetfully!

64. Have you approved what they have become
Through deprivation while I am pleased?

65. If you refuse, then avenge in the future
For sisters—future events!

66. Judge with the judgment of glory for me against them
And show her the secret of friendship hidden!

67. We did not disobey the causes of friendship in your praise
So why do you disobey benevolence towards us?
