1. That Pleiades you long for
You have cast your heart far away

An eyelid - victim of tears that can't be solaced

5. We stayed up in Babylon for the sleepers
Unaware of the afflictions we endure in Nejd's slumber

6. From the Arabian Peninsula a sun returns
With the freemen of Persia like me enslaved

7. When her people boast of loyalty and generosity
She still sees stinginess as generosity

8. If only they would keep their word
They would return my estranged heart to me

9. Yes, God has gathered, oh you I passionately loved
And warded off from you passion and refusal

10. Her eye has glistened and seen my demise
So guide it and make me a clear target

11. They say the hearts of beautiful women are iron
While yours is a fire that melts iron

12. I will walk with people at their pace
Performing the unpleasant and saying the gentle

13. I am fooled by my brother’s happy face
If rain were to follow those clouds

14. And I admire the water in his face
While in his heart lies kindling, set aflame

15. The most eloquent are the most suspicious
And with me the most excusing is the envious

16. Envy! You won't see the concealed
Among people like you won’t see the unique

17. And Ibn Abd al-Rahim’s traits have won
Praise - like his ancestry - that will never perish

18. And glory, so that when the glory of men dies
It gives what marched in it eternity

19. He paved from a Persian height
That the meteors cannot ascend

20. A status that ambitious men cannot vie for
Nor can villains wink suggestively

21. A lineage and its branches are alike
As glory appeared in them, it was restored

22. The stars were considered from them children
And the crumbled ruins were considered from them ancestors

23. I would be fortunate to love you if only
I had been destined by you for good fortune

24. Why such reluctance that kills loyalty?
When I have a guarantee that unravels pacts

25. And lacking attention I show dislike for
For the sake of it, asking you for more

26. Is it not time for the desired habit
To return to the expanse of your chest?

27. If my face’s water did not melt for it
Its price would not have concerned me, frozen

28. A secure breast aligned us chambers and promised us
Traits from what cared for promises

29. To God I registered, for at Him
I sent a passion that died in you a martyr

30. Despite what the duration of your rule has lacked
Living for so long white and black

31. And do not stop my poetry from reaching you
Brides who loudly chant and clamor

32. The Yemeni assumed that he sewed brochados
When I aimed verses of ode at him

33. And I have, each feast, a stance
Where I implore your kindness with a chant

34. Dispraised, so I will not ask you for a gift
Is it not time for me to ask you for a feast?
