1. Lighten her burdens with gentle words
And give her respite with loosening bonds

2. Set her free from distress
In her aged decrepitude and chains

3. Raising what has fallen from her neck
Reuniting what has parted from her train

4. That she may leave behind some honor
Though ravaged, bereft of sons and lineage

5. It is time for fate to take her side
And the promiser to be shamed by his vows

6. That freed arms and water-carriers
Who bore staves may find respite at last

7. With Na'man she has the means to thrive
Through ample, lawful provision

8. And what security she draws from her bases
Lowered and unfurled from her banners

9. And like rock-doves in the crags of Hajar
Mates who would heal her condition

10. Yes, may the rainclouds water Hajar
So the towering peaks rise from their ruins

11. Never lacking a cool breeze from the north
That blows in and from its quarters

12. How I have suffered there, and with me
Does, and gazelles amid their sands

13. And archers, from the clansmen of Maqil
Whose ally fears their arrows' rebounds

14. Each channel fixed to a celestial orb
Waning with its crescent's decline

15. It commands however it inclines
And seeks safety in its anklet's bells

16. On the morn after Ghamid I relied
On the realized hopes and their breed

17. Healthy, virtuous daughters I sent forth with me
Wounded, enflamed hearts and confused minds

18. And a visitant of dreams sometimes
That stirs the passionate soul with delusions

19. She circles above, a falcon, never intending
To alight, no thought of visit crossed her mind

20. Were it not for love's madness and conceit
I'd not accept in dreams her phantom's guise

21. She came while midnight's pleats were stitched
Already coming undone in their sewing

22. Her hands still clutching her breast
Her skirts not yet loosened from their knots

23. In the litter, a slumbering caravan
Its men strewn over its camel-litters

24. Some matched her in their dreams' creation
Others differed in their states from hers

25. One sleepless with unmet needs
One sleeping, indifferent to her place

26. Had I not feared my dreams would lie
I'd have risen and prayed before her idol

27. Then I woke, my hand touching
What had slipped from grasp of her train

28. Blame me not for safeguarding my honor
Heedless of my needs and cares

29. Glory has taken and given my hand
So the horizon falls short of my reach

30. I have plunged to seek the extremes, so
My feet avoided no trespass in their depths

31. The minister's hand stoked fate for me
And it came to me trailing its burdens

32. Bounty flowed, and successors emulated
None hopes to match her pattern and mold

33. Al-Mukarram granted me drink from the cup
Among his people, the Exalted's son and kin

34. The days have passed, their napes bent over
Gone like phantoms amid their parting

35. The just leader ascending through her heights
No climber attains her equilibrium

36. Supporting her state from its pillar
His light undimmed by her shadows

37. With his sword and resolve she regained
What time had stripped of perfection

38. He held her fast while fate around her
Buckled, too weak to uphold her

39. Men either ignorantly neglecting
Or blind to where she strays

40. Envying her gifts and denying her rights
Seeking glory in debasing her place

41. Until her True Defender came to her rescue
Clearing the darkness suffusing her way

42. The One sent forth in her time
To raise her out of despair and death

43. Shaped of generous clay is she
Jewels of necklaces around her throat

44. She grew as the days aged
And time reached its peak with her peak

45. She ascended in the House, and the House
To the most noble seats and dais

46. Abdul Rahim united her, and Ayyub
Watered her from the overflowing pool

47. When she glows it is the pride of flowering youth
When she laughs it amazes with her charm

48. O Pride of the Faith, care for her always
And dwell in enduring union with her

49. To minister her affairs as God decreed
Is dearer than all who desire her best

50. She came to you unwilling at first
As the days forced her into plight

51. You honored her, and when named by you
You completed her, becoming her man

52. You were her treasure, but only one like you
Is fit for the burden of ones like her

53. Today you are her dream and her men once
Were but phantoms existing in her dreams

54. You rule her in full possession
So guard her honor and dress her beauty

55. Bring her joy with care and what appealed
Of her grace, combining them as one

56. She came not battered or accused
Nor assailed as you lay in ambush

57. Nor knocked at her doors by surprise
Amid her slumber to her chambers

58. No, she came to you of her own will
Her hair disheveled, her head-wrap askew

59. Seeking meaning for her name, to free it
From the falsehood of names and their claims

60. She surpassed the crawling youths to you
The elders, knowing true sovereignty's traits

61. To learn from you, bonds formed from the start
Knowledge of maturity in babes

62. Until settled by you in her proper place
No thought of moving crossed her mind

63. This the poetry tells and imparts
Of the sign of intellect and its leads

64. The bygone days gave you glad tidings
That the future holds in its keeping

65. For me a refuge; my good fortune's birds
And for my enemies, truth in omens

66. We spoke and it was so; so act
For our merit exceeds yours tenfold

67. Our excellence is known in our words
And kings' nobility in their deeds

68. We blame not the rainclouds you drive
Pouring down, never denying us drink

69. Nor have we seen the sea refuse
The open hands that come to fill

70. But we do see inertia brings loss
To a state, we who are her people

71. Your falcon has taken wing
But our state is unchanged by her flight

72. We have spent our lives hoping in her
Awaiting favor in her favor

73. Neglected dues, while glory lies dormant
Doubtless forgotten, from neglect

74. So spur our fervor with a glance
To kindle the fire of zeal in our souls

75. Fulfill our hopes, yourselves the means
For you to reach the hopes you instilled

76. And welcome them, treasures unmarred
The winds cannot rend in their terrain

77. Carrying the lands' folds, her oceans
Flowing through you, her mountains' heights

78. Fear no loss if supported by you
No stumbling if swift steps hurry her pace

79. When unfurled, her parchments
Bear the swords' sharpness in their lines

80. They tell of eternity, evermore
And inform the foe his time is nigh

81. Laughter peals from her festivals today
For the biting cold has cast its sheen

82. She wanders in time, like her wandering
In verse, or its changing guises

83. A day that recounted your merit shone for us
Unlike other commonplace days

84. It came with delegations, yearning
For the mending of parted ties

85. Stopping, not leaving until you left
Asking, not relenting until you answered

86. Giving glad tidings that you, of some grace
Whose loss events cannot hope to cancel

87. Will remain as time remains, for if
Time changes, it changes not its pace
