While time behind you is obsessed with its dispersal

7. Had you taken my advice you would not have pursued
The orbits of hopes in their coils

8. And a passion you obeyed its master in pleasure
Followed that did not escape its consequences

9. It builds the glittering ships, its mirage
And reckons the deceived, its wilderness sands

10. And a girl of a people whose attacker does not sleep
You coveted their chastity in their chambers

11. They sharpened the blades for you because of her and you rode them
Deluded until you flew into their tips

12. And the oath of a maid you frequented her rosary
And went into her moments and times

13. No constitution was there before you for virtues
In its religion, ever, and its devout women

14. She looked and you were prey to her sword
And walked away and you were a shield for her spears

15. And you went following her connection and tongue
While wisdom is in resisting her and averting from her evils

16. Sleep, for you have stayed up. Without the day of her loyalty
She who, the day of her loss, you have experienced

17. And thank her for unveiling the mask, for she
Betrayed, and betrayal was among her virtues

18. And remember the goals of others and wonder at her
Usurping you was a harm to her pleasures

19. And the hypocritical wearing masks of faces
Deaf, vileness shouts from their expressions

20. They dyed the whiteness of loyalty with its blackness
And generosity’s openhandedness with laziness

21. Wagering on life, they gained
Its goals and shared its sustenances

22. Their souls inherited the evils of its origin
Baseness, and increased subtlety from its essence

23. Hands that dry up in spring and tongues
That mirage stole hypocrisy from its words

24. Describing affection is its face, and behind
Is the ugliness of glass, revealing its intentions

25. They inserted cunning in the appointments of sweetness
That were scorpions, and the liar its maternal aunt

26. A nature, if you told of its morals
It is as though you exposed its nakedness

27. For God hopes that I have lost sleep over
And they did not hold to their blood-monies

28. And dignities I have melted the silver of its excuse for
Save its peers and its capacities

29. Strangers I have faulted over the ignoble their nobility
And disclosed the children of filial disobedience their daughters

30. I have blamed them wrongly, oppressed,
Its disabled weep for its verses

31. They deny its rights after
They have been sustained by its characteristics

32. From all whose hearing is open to it
Deafened, its silence sufficed apart from its connections

33. He aspires for the heights, but when ascending to attain them
Mere plenty bars him from its elevations

34. Perplexed, following from his brother and son
What echoes follow from their sounds

35. Who will excuse me from them and for the burning
I have kindled my ribs over its embers

36. And for a sin I have been biased by its disgrace
The height of glory and lowered from its degrees

37. It is I who wronged it, so am I the one seizing
Another with it when he did not come near it

38. O fate, why do you have for me no stumbling
Running the lucks and forgiving their slips

39. How I complain of you and you are a pillar of humiliation
The enthralled do not aspire for its life

40. A life not living, and a soul that
Has no enjoyment of the world save its sorrows

41. And it wishes, when it wishes, that its
Beloved were not changed by its injustice for estrangement

42. And it makes it more patient, and exceeding endurance
For animosity, compassion from its gloating

43. If, O time, there remains with you anything
With which dignities are bandaged, bring it

44. Patience over its crooked fates
That must run their course to their ends

45. And perhaps with your anger at it and pleasure
Its path will go straight in its borders

46. How many like it constricted, so its constriction
Was relieved one day, and its deep sorrows not reckoned

47. And I have hoarded, so did you know its place
Among the choicest of my days and its good things

48. Seclusion it produces my frequenting it alone
The world flourished through it in its heights

49. I have from it the pleasing of eyes and open-handedness
Of trusted hands when I am bereft of its trusts

50. And kinship of the brother, except that distance
In affection my brother did not attain its goals

51. From preventing me the sanctuary of brotherhood and pouring
The paths of loyalty, so securing its bows

52. And the ones safe from the changing of their time
And transformation of things from their states

53. And when the crippled and the maimed deformed
From some fault, they were the place of its smoothness

54. I advised him while from the eyes severe anger
Surrounds me and another I have plucked its strings

55. So I stirred in him the father of determination, and the
Spears trampling him slipped in its thickets

56. Filled with noble temperament is his soul
Containing virtues from all directions

57. Submissive to dignities, and souls
That leave glory and are led to its passions

58. None chose the chosen one for me but a hand
That planted it trusting in the goodness of its gardens

59. For God, I saw its affection wavering
By the sign of success in its mirror

60. Time returned with him the youth of my life
After the greying ignited in its hairs

61. And I harbored estrangement, frowning, in him
Days of time I had denied its attributes

62. How many impairments I treated with their remedies
From it, and delights that were of its medicines

63. And rents, and time tore open their stitches
I patched with it and the breadth of its easings

64. From a bearer of the pages of praise in trust
Who cannot betray knocking its qualities

65. Thanks, as she laughed at him pleasantly
In sorrow, the remaining of life in its flirtations

66. He comes and bears its burden calmly
In its composure, guidance, and in its stillness, medicine

67. Good in knowing its duties and loans
Until he fulfills them in their times

68. Convey to Abu al-Hasan who none beyond him
Is the target of fate and its throws

69. From me chained, secretly telling its conversation
The mother of planets or lent its attributes

70. From the freshwater spring of lawful sweetness when
The salt of talent goes in its streams

71. If the vale descends, it halts its spears
And pours to it, and resolves from its intentions

72. May rewarding you for earning distinction and loving Him
Suffice you from what the mute speaks after its silence

73. And it returns the dignities of the noble as if they were
A right hand swaggering in its scribbles

74. A price, if there were a price for his love
Poetry expends for you its concealed treasures

75. Extravagating it for you from the palm tree of its secret
A soul that sees in you what it sees in its life
