1. If loyalty departs from time,
How can the unfaithful be blamed for betrayal?

2. We forgive the disobedient times,
And seek obedience from the beautiful eyes.

3. We hope for safety where there is fear,
Yet we fear in the land of security.

4. Your beloved, from among these nights,
Is made of fragile clay.

5. Their essence is nothing but loyalty,
Even if two colors appear to your eyes.

6. The steadfastness of my brother turns to me, so how can I
Deny the turning of a bending branch?

7. My friend surrendered to me as a brother and sword,
So how can the help of one who gathers grapes be defeated?

8. I see my brothers around me filling my eyes,
And I meet misfortunes with no regret.

9. I miss my loved ones, then reluctantly appease myself
By standing at the resting places.

10. O time, save me from the error of my judgment
Of your people, as that is what pains me most.

11. I have shown my signs among those not my own,
Yet I did not see the time for my miracles.

12. If not, take your vengeance on me,
Except for exposing my honor to humiliation.

13. God has removed from my heart's eye,
How I yearn for the deceits of sights.

14. I see images and signs of beauty,
Snares for greed and wishes.

15. So I seek shade that did not shelter me,
And am nourished by clouds that did not water me.

16. He whose heart is hard one day when I complain,
And soft another day, still has some tenderness.

17. I am patient with his changing ways,
Bearing distance and closeness.

18. I thank him for his affection at times,
And excuse him if he is harsh with me.

19. So I think his kindness is increased by my praise,
And I wink hints from the corners of my eyes.

20. My resolve wavered in clinging to him,
And resolve was mine before the wavering.

21. I put off praising him for the day of my hardship,
Though fate accomplished what it did not accomplish me.

22. Oh, if only my heart knew about my adversary,
For whom fate hoards if it undoes me!

23. How can a friend rejoice after me
When he wearied of my nearness and intimacy?

24. Men have reconciled to estrangement,
And empathy and affection are forgotten.

25. Except for a house glory resides within,
Firmly constructed with pillars of integrity.

26. Abdul Rahim built it and established its foundation,
And his sons further built upon what was built.

27. Whenever the sun of excellence sets in it,
It rises again from the dawning-places.

28. None were like the vizier, his brother,
Or the two brothers, a provision for the singer.

29. The full moon of the King's perfection shone,
Nights of completion, luck of conjunctions.

30. High status and the Father of Sublimities allied,
When names ally with meanings.

31. The steeds stumble behind a neighbor,
Submitting the flagging of the race to him.

32. Smooth of mane, docked of tail,
Restless of saddle, loose of rein.

33. The brilliant one took responsibility for politics,
A protector when guaranteed with a guarantee.

34. When hearts fluttered from what he guaranteed,
The pulsating in their bosoms kindled.

35. Brave the day he sets out for great deeds,
While the back of cowards reveals baseness.

36. The King is supported by him as by a towering mountain,
Shady of shadow, erect of saplings.

37. His judgments about him were conclusive,
As conclusive as Indian swords in piercing.

38. When affairs came to him, the advocacy
Of the appointed over the weary became evident.

39. He spoke, so he judged in a time
When the blind are many and insight rare.

40. He is singular in perfection, not bolstered
By the strength of a third or the aid of a second.

41. What the exaggerators claimed of him was verified,
As none exaggerated with a defect.

42. It is as if the speech of one who praises him
Is the speech of a sword about a Yemeni blade.

43. The ministry was married to his brother,
And after him, what excellent guardians!

44. When settled, their assembly is a den
Protected from harm by two cave lions.

45. And if they rise in refusal, it is an upland
Whose shepherds have slept.

46. This one supports that in resolves,
As the sword is supported by the blade.

47. Deliver for me the perfection of the King,
Even if he is where he can hear or see me.

48. The message of one estranged among men, but
Upon him is the humiliation of estrangement.

49. Your neglect of me is protection from losing you,
Yet why has your heart after loving me wavered?

50. And one forgotten while you have incentives
To my rights, reminders of my affair.

51. Enduring in the pages are Khawalid,
For your glory, throughout the fleeting epochs.

52. In them are the secrets of hearts when contained,
And in ears the proclamation of friendship.

53. Smooth of head, compliant of neck, they visit you
Riding upon congratulations.

54. When the feast is permitted, they come
Demanding the celebration of festivals.

55. I remain to arrange it, so you take advantage of me,
Like wine remaining in half a vessel.

56. Praise has increased, and its speakers,
But who can take my place for you?

57. Deliver to the King the utmost of perfection from me,
Whether he hears or sees me nearby.

58. I am estranged among men, though estrangement
Causes me the humiliation of a sufferer.

59. Your neglect is protection from losing you,
Yet why, after loving me, has your heart wavered?

60. And I am forgotten while you have incentives
To my rights, reminders of my affair.
