1. Yearning while adorned, prohibited from drinking
The water of al-Naqib, though it is plentiful

2. It would delight your eye, though union is prohibited
A branch waves over hot coals and sways

3. And if you desire clouds, you need
What pours on the barren valley and is generous

4. That is only because your pact has not ended
What pact remains for the living in the date palms?

5. And misfortune preserves one who avoids
Fate's blow against him, continuous

6. By God, I did not swear by the dwellers of love
Out of doubt, but as affirmation

7. For them, even if they refused the place of my hopes
And even if they disliked those I desire

8. I scent the souls while they are still
And their land dries out so I water it

9. I deny the slanderer who comes to me with their betrayal
While evidence and witnesses prove

10. They are a friend yet harbor no affection
They are kin, yet visiting them is remote

11. With the best of two banners, some of their verses
Are a gazelle hunted by a gazelle while it hunts

12. When men gather their meat, the resolution
Of the girded loins melts

13. It shoots hearts though no blood is on a slaughter site
Unless split by an arrow or neck

14. He promised loyalty, yet it was not in him, so he fooled me
While mirages fool when they make promises

15. I am gentle with him, though I have self-respect
I intentionally soften, though my heart is ice

16. And if I begin to repent the love of passion
Desire pulls me back by my leading rope

17. I yearn for the clay and malleability of my origin
Not what I was created upon, rigid

18. The wastelands of Hejaz allure me, though
The countryside of Iraq and its extended shade overwhelm me

19. Music of the Sa'd tribe does not transport me
Yet the singing camel driver affects me

20. That is only because the moons of love
When they rise, their orbits

21. Finding me unmarried, the bachelor began to advise
Repeating counsel about them

22. Yet I am the one passion split in the ribs
Beyond what can be blamed or denied

23. Oh companion, do you have an intimate friend
Content for you to be happy while he is miserable?

24. Restless until you rest, though he may
Stay up late, exhausted

25. Taking blows, or his sharp tongue protects you
Well-known in you, his firm resolve

26. You are like the lamp's light in the darkest night
While it is the fuel

27. Without your glory, a contemptible wretch
Even if David did not decree it

28. Trustworthy ones are few, so if you take one
Grasp his hand, for he is alone

29. God does not deprive the family who preserved glory
A house for them, built near the stars

30. When the year frowns, their hands pour down
Dew in the valley, and the peg rises

31. When the tribes' decline spreads, virtues
Grow and increase through them

32. Generosity is never absent from the stranger, and among them
A person exists upon the face of the earth

33. A house whose pillars are the family of ‘Abd al-Rahim
Their father a column and pillar for it

34. The winds of righteousness blow fiercely around it
Calming through the homes

35. Around it are precious pearls, radiant
Nights blackened by them

36. When delegations stop by, you see them
Bountifully standing while delegations sit

37. So if you desire its summits for a need
Abu al-Ma‘ali is its destination

38. Their neighbors see you absent yesterday
Seeing future increase, a witnessed day

39. A star journeyed desiring another star until
It crossed a distance, so the star said, "Where do you go?"

40. "Elevation, the perfection of sovereignty in its horizons
Protecting precious lineage, warding off"

41. The dilemmas of the year woke healthy and fighting
Responding to the call of old age as a youth

42. Awake, lighting boldness with firm resolve
Flowing with it while the roads' people freeze

43. He loved the heights, sought and attained its union
Strolling while his envious ones burn

44. He fulfilled the conditions of competence, entering
Through its door while its bolt was locked

45. His manner breathes the spirits of leadership
As if he was born in its lap

46. If ignorance were to taint his nature at all
He would learn from it how to rule

47. Delicate towards the present day, either his
Wealth in it or his scanned sacrifice

48. No, before fulfilling its asker when asked for help
A promise, nor before the meeting, a threat

49. When good traits come together fully
They are valor or its brother, generosity

50. He spent wealth for praise, and his knowledge
That to fade with praise is eternity

51. The miser is sometimes tried with a situation
Where his idolized money shames him

52. From his manners, if you deal with him
Two sides, one easy and one severe

53. With the cynical, harshness and impudence
As if his heart is frozen

54. With kindness, swaying and sympathy
You'd say a pliant branch

55. O family of glory time does not rouse
Itself from the like of you while asleep

56. Time's eye is content with your elites
For time toward you is envious

57. Were it not for you, praise would be forgotten
No increase or decrease among people

58. Scarce merit or its abundance would fade
Like its many and perish

59. Through you I pushed back time’s hand and sale
Expanding with my difficulties stretched

60. And I carried the heavy burdens of its sorrows
Which exhaust might and make frail

61. You mixed me with souls, so if one
Turns, I am counted among you

62. If a group takes on the changing of the
World, my pact in you remains

63. You cared for my stinginess, so you guided it
And composed it with generosity, though crude

64. When an ally withdraws from helping me
Help is my fortune from you and support

65. So let me reward you the best a man rewarded
Who found eloquence and spoke masterfully

66. Of what competes in rhyme and meaning
Through hearing, intricate and cool

67. To be provisions for the night journey
Pursued by the guided caravan

68. For every censured lover an excuse
In it, and the baptized pardoned through it

69. As if it were poems between the lips
Above the throat, necklaces and chokers

70. An untouched maiden, envied by you
In her times, by the shy, fleeing gazelle

71. Yearning for you makes Nowruz excite her
Or Eid comes to show her you

72. For you are tidings of eternity, a dominion
Passing through days, then returning

73. I don’t think life is good unless
Your management makes it rebound

74. You remained while the envious of you
Have no good - no good without envy
