1. Perhaps the caravan will safely pass
Seeing the resolution to halt the swift steed

2. For at the frontiers is a Ruseis
Whose passion surveys the path cautiously

3. An oasis of the world and shade
With a meadow whose ground depicts wealth

4. And a doe who anxiously seeks remedy
Whose forgiveness contains the evening broadly

5. And like shy gazelles thirstily
When gathered, their haunches are watered

6. They compete with hearts through glances
That wound, even if the archer misses

7. If their tricks let one pass in error
A sickly passion has caught them unawares

8. I circle them to gain a connection
And to prepare for my lament a confidant

9. So by my father and glory of my father
Love is sacrificed for others or just for me

10. Tender faced beauties amidst a crowd
To the plain I went with them miserably

11. The blackness of the locks from Sulaym
Whose stature teaches the spear straightness

12. The necklace around her translucent neck
For it, the parted hair seizes the ornament

13. She is timid the day she seeks a Samaritan
And friendly the day she fetches a Babylonian

14. If you perceive the red of her drinking
She quenches you with pure wine heatedly

15. She counts my white hair a sin
So return my youth or make me young again

16. The reproachers blame me for my madness
May God disgrace whoever reproaches me

17. I have given up my rationality in love for her
Yet she passes me sane or misguided

18. And I was not the first lover
To be infatuated with love drunkenly

19. Verily, my friend, I love you, not
The sedentary or the weak and frail

20. My friend you have not opposed my resolve
And you keep my goals confidential

21. You make me out to be a leader over you
And choose me while excluding others

22. You burden me with afflictions and mishaps
And seize the enjoyments and wholesomeness

23. So I do not see you ask after me soon
And ask if I have avoided you stealthily

24. And you blame my time on others
So I did not recognize its measure equally

25. A two-faced brother whom you inform confidently
And observe him outwardly reverently

26. Impetuous, usurping and an enemy brother
In his nature and controllably stubborn

27. I sensed his manners so turned away
And some people reckon me a fool

28. May God protect Iraq and its two blossoms
A sanctuary that humbles the proud soul

29. A land whose fertility I did not covet but
Rather its enmity was a pasture and liquidity

30. Feminine in earth and whose water flows forward
With the goodness of its nature excellently

31. I see my camels in it
Licking the soil thinking it butter

32. Scornful of gifts trotting in a line
Neither mangy nor captured or enslaved

33. When strangers arrive I thrust them
Upon the relatives hiding them closely

34. Each miser of a people protected it from roses
To be generous within it with his honor

35. If he links virtues to his father
And from him extracts the foreign

36. I stand and my companion so I rouse
The separation and the slanderer

37. And we do not know if we lost our riding beasts
On the shore or we bridled them ruggedly

38. So they became dejected or we dispersed them
Morning of humiliation if they drank bitterly

39. And no lands carried me
Between them the promise or the patron

40. I invoked the Arab and Persia’s clan
Yet neither kin I praised nor foreigner

41. And the Nabataean aid dozed off from it
So I awakened the Roman lad

42. He rose up to remove injustice from it
Generous of return, excellent cloak-stripper

43. He confronts its enemies and blocks
The path of oppression, most healing

44. Deaf if they appeal from affection
Disobeying friends and grasping sticks

45. Indeed, I courted the lofty hopes
For a man to be guided by them

46. Settling with him calm, though unruly prior
And acquiescing with him in difficulty

47. I accepted its challenges with resolve, pride and obedience
A headstrong slave yet compliant

48. But it chose none but the Chosen as a bosom friend
A sponsor for its challenges sufficiently

49. I inspired in him yet did not waver any zealot
To my purpose nor discouraged any coward

50. And he was my brother though dilemmas occurred
He fulfilled them and my brother is not fulfilling

51. He stood in defense of good opinion of him
A position that makes the brave slip

52. I gained him though aged the fresh grown
A sign the day I know him as a youth

53. And I had made him a reserve for the dawn of
A poor day that I be with him wealthy

54. So the omens of my visitation with him initially
Did not lie nor were untrue

55. As if when I sent for my need through him
I sharpened a Persian sword

56. He tended the cordiality of old, not betraying it
Nor with its passage forgetting it

57. And he hugged it from its sides
While the wolf of betrayal prowled around it

58. Loyalty has become counted as incompetence
And remembering the pact, ignorance of old

59. He struggled unarmed and paid debts
While time toys with me enjoyably with them

60. Abu Al-Hasan you shone thereby a flame
Upon the darkness of my brothers illuminating

61. I experienced them so I was with them little
While they are many so I was with you flourishing

62. They forgot the ancient fellows of glory
So I was estranged, my abode devastated

63. I alighted my camels and back upon you
A marked place lofty and precise

64. So I became like an obstinate branch
I determined thereby though not fickle at heart

65. As if my pursuits seek none but you
The loyalty of hot weather confused

66. So the world continues showing me through you
The way to attain me clearly and openly

67. And vows from your survival to prolong my time
Despite its shortness bestowed favorably

68. When will the world grow old and
Decripit, leaving it youthfully

69. The birds of my approval have flown spreading
With your traits aromas or anthems

70. Deliriums that the Yemenite counts thereof
Your gown competing the lined

71. Blocking the horizons of the white high
And passing through its sunset penetratingly

72. One present speaks of them to one past
And an easterner makes a westerner delight

73. Downpours from sources of purities
Whose basin I informed you of so drink readily

74. That I may fulfill for you some gratitude
As you fulfilled the right of affection in me
