1. Perhaps if they had stopped,
this slanderer would have desisted,

2. and said tomorrow, and intention's promise
O how cold it would be if they had not been treacherous!

3. So they were provoked and gathered,
and waited and were remiss.

4. The survivor made haste
and the appointed clamoured,

5. Then they kissed and wiped over,
and rolled in the dust and circumambulated.

6. Verily the perfection of kingdom is from
the injustice of nights being equitable,

7. And that he and his people
are the most benevolent of eyes that glance

8. And he is, in their pride,
a pride for them and an honour,

9. Every gloomy cloud is illuminated
by his face and dispersed.

10. And every governor to the ruler
is preoccupied with his name and leaves.

11. He flew and the bird circles
fluttering around him,

12. And it was done - the brilliant one -
its lights were eclipsed by his lights.

13. And the judicious king managed
his view that examines.

14. So he included in it his justice -
that which sincerity had disseminated.

15. He led the difficulties gently,
straightening for them and being kind,

16. Until he was balanced on the path
and it inclined, devout.

17. And he knew the world and what
had aided the one who knew.

18. So his inclination established it -
his education that enlightens.

19. A soul with truth it fortifies
and to it, it turns.

20. The world coquets with it
and it turns away from the world.

21. It vows, not to trick it,
its ornate possessions,

22. And a power that holds it back
from its glory - chastity.

23. And tranquility calmly filling
while it bleeds out.

24. The Tigris and Euphrates or
shawls for it and kerchiefs.

25. It would be pure white if it flowed with it -
it would not say "I am wasteful."

26. And a nature like water - no,
like a flash of lightning that is sipped.

27. It intoxicates soberly -
if grape juice intoxicates you.

28. Exalted above description - none
can do it justice, who describes it.

29. And its sign dazzled -
so the sinner admitted.

30. The crown consulted it - and afterwards -
deafness in its ears.

31. And the lifespan of past kings
its new life exceeded.

32. Verily the one who held the sword
below it was not timid.

33. You strengthened so you supported it
and you alone weakened the weakened.

34. You protected it from vileness
while its chest was targeted.

35. Ministers under you
below men stand.

36. You are to it what brings the house close
or casts it away.

37. Your love ennobles it -
it is excused or it is rebuked.

38. So why do people seek
to connect with it while it splits away?

39. They tasted so you were lightning
that deceives when it snatches away.

40. And the confusion of their palms
pulls it while the hard ground does.

41. They returned it so they censured it
for what they have and deprived it.

42. And it is one they had tried
its defiance and knew it.

43. It did not become heavy but rather
you weakened, and they weakened.

44. You taught people a lesson by
running while they stood still.

45. And that is what the encumbered
human cannot achieve.

46. And how can the arrogant
deny while they are honored?

47. And your glory a mediator -
and all glory is fleeting.

48. With you, my lineage flowed and many
feathers of mine gathered.

49. And my name soared flowing
with the winds that blow violently.

50. My back is fortified by you
and my side is sheltered.

51. I befriended you, and the house -
spacious, fertile - unites.

52. So my praise of you
focuses beyond other people.

53. It has blended my passions
with serenity that aspires.

54. For your love has quenched
the blazing, the streaming.

55. You possessed my soul, so I have
no escape from you.

56. And your friendship in it is a place
like my core or finer.

57. So neither faith, my essence in you,
nor hopes can heal.

58. I will not despair, even if you shun,
that you will show kindness.

59. And the patience of Jacob is with me
until Joseph returns.

60. There remains upon you what
Umm Hudayl called out.

61. And what a Yaum al-Mizdalifa walked,
billowing its train and slapping it.

62. Upon it, from the coolness of spring,
its layered wrap.

63. In a rising of blessing
whose descent does not cease.

64. For people are appendages
and you are the axis and the equitable.

65. You were created uniquely in us -
a second to none recognized.

66. I say without false modesty
for that statement, and I vow,

67. And guarantees, perhaps
for you a promised time is not missed.

68. Keepsakes from describing you
with goods that are recognized.

69. For you they are swords -
and they are gifts with you.
