1. O heart, from where after an absence
Did this infatuation return to you, O lonely one?

2. After the passion of youth died,
Did this grieving gray-haired one counsel you?

3. And after fifty years passed as they passed,
With some left out uncounted by the Reckoner,

4. A Najdi woman came to you with passions,
Greedy, and you are obligated to her.

5. O heart, you are not suited for fervor,
Rather those who left you are the ones who take you.

6. You would not remember the absent ones from their era
Except so the absent one devours you.

7. An advisor from Hijaz preached to you
With her preaching the ascetic was not tempted.

8. So send back to the wind her tales
For in her youth she is a lying transmitter.

9. She came when you were separated - the north wind makes peace -
Neither the brought nor the bringer survived.

10. The gazelles of the protected land, the howler,
The assailant, the spearsman, and the striker survived.

11. The sun came close to Tameemah
Its rising from Raamah goes down.

12. If she preceded with betrayal among her people
The drawn bow would not have fulfilled its duty.

13. She is white, hidden, not prepared for
Among the Bedouins, the color of the pale Arabs.

14. If her character is described, her description amazes people,
Or if her lineage were recounted, the recounter is amazed.

15. So let not an apple tempt you from it
Nor a lightning flash seize you.

16. O rider of dangers, it leads you to destruction,
Dismount if the journey tires you, O rider!

17. What is wrong with you? Ease has enabled you
Yet you suffer from what you seek.

18. It is time the exhausted struggler rests
And the ambitious covetous one feels relief.

19. The one staying today in bliss
Is envied by the wanderer and the rider.

20. The valley overflowed with the doors of Baghdad
The soil rose high and the side expanded.

21. It was shaded by the pouring clouds of the hands of the sons
Of Abdurrahman, falling and pouring.

22. Their rising sun returned in it
And the piercing star came back.

23. To the pillar of the state, he regained
The intimate who fled and sheltered the fugitive.

24. He spread justice with his generosity
Until the deprived and earner became equal.

25. He directed his purpose skillfully
Like arrows, his correct view.

26. He disciplined the days with wisdom
Ignorance over its morals is defeated.

27. The kingdom is a pasture whose subjects
Slept while its ravenous wolf wanders.

28. It was a hell throwing harm
In its two sides the burning embers.

29. His awe extinguished whatever
Igniting kindling flared up in it.

30. He poured blood on it when it was
A water that cannot be extinguished by the pourer.

31. It became a fallen cloud above it,
A harvest around it, an obligatory side.

32. Darkening clouds of sermons do not clear
Until the absent moon returns.

33. O glory of the faith, you are praised through it,
And wonder at the like of it is obligatory.

34. You did not stop punishing the criminal
Insistently until the penitent feared you.

35. A crack in the world you fixed
Without you, it would have no mountain path.

36. People pulled it as they wanted
For ages but no puller clung to it.

37. Neither the helpless weakling waited for them
Nor the hardworking diligent one.

38. You slipped your view through its body
A view that is the cutting decisiveness.

39. The banner of your days appeared
And the conqueror spread the earth with it.

40. The preference of you gathered the tongues
So the praiser and critic reconciled.

41. The matter does not go right with other than you,
No opponent of it or employee.

42. And none but your hands can spread money
While others unlawfully take it.

43. A ministry whose assembly is a platform
For which God and the appointer chose you.

44. You belong to it so strengthen your hand on it,
The brother, cousin, and companion.

45. If you become isolated and leave it
Or a deputy succeeds in its management,

46. It would be a separation whose steadfastness
And a missed arrow of the enemy would rejoice.

47. You went far so the praise you sprinkled shrank
And the blamer and wanderer contracted.

48. So turn toward the world and what fate did to it
The firm destiny decreed upon it.

49. The lion does not wink during his roar
Even if the insistent barker jumps.

50. In his skin is a protected one and in his bone
A victor in your might penetrating.

51. He who walked to his doom provoking it
Oh what a woeful end the end brought!

52. O you who extends his palm with scales
The country smiles at it in the end.

53. And who protected the land and what is above it
Fear for him is plundered, it has no taker.

54. And the Chosen Beloved, from his money
The vagrant pillager rummages.

55. His pouring clouds that strike with lightning enriched me
From every deceitful downpour and pouring one.

56. And every hot-tempered open-handed one’s door
Shyness from his money is a veil.

57. He does not create embarrassment on his face
Neither praiser flattered nor critic found fault.

58. You shielded my face after his overflowing water disfigured me
And mixed me into your blessings through which you ennobled me.

59. And you made me safe though the evildoers’
Arrowheads on the sandy plain rebelled against me.

60. A dog came to the lion and provoked me
And said while he is the wicked liar:

61. “Tomorrow, leave him be, his appearance
Is not like a cup with its name of ‘cupbearer’”.

62. To villainy, its origin established in him.
Even if he were a scribe, the poet scribe

63. Would not care for him.
And if the likes of him criticized my poetry

64. The devastating critic and cutter would expose him.
So he remained in order not to force his nose that I break

65. A nose, by my life, blunt and thick.
And wear the state’s attire

66. That the dragger drags along its train.
And vow in the day of festival a ransom

67. So excellent is the coming visit.
A day for your ancestors regarding its preservation

68. A covenant whose right must be kept.
And greet the morning with the pride that its bird brings

69. While for your enemy is the wailing mourner.
Neither the crested nor the defending

70. Plover over its chicks spoke clearly.
And listen when its strings are plucked for it

71. The most eloquent speech the speaker produced.
Adorned with your name from the best

72. That the binder bound on its forehead.
With you is a melodious warbling call

73. While with those you opposed is the mourning poet.
From the essence of maturity though

74. Its softness suggests I play with it.
Neither the Lord of weapons perceived the like of it

75. In hearing, nor he whose house is undefeated.
And go along with convention in its gift

76. Following the path, its course clear.
The land is not pleasant to me, gifted

77. Unless you are the giver.
