3. I did not know until she enticed me that she was like me, desirous of union.
Where are my neighbors whose longing I share? An incessant longing that left me sleepless.

4. Wild deer roam the dwellings, their magic making them seem like gliding gazelles.
My friends gathered one evening, their lights flickering like fireflies.

I said, if you must, then wait, let him pass by unhindered on his way.

6. My overflowing tears will rain down, and should that weather come,
My eager heart races to meet it, yearning to be soaked.

I thought wine forbidden to the devout until I tasted its exquisite intoxication.

8. Oh you who forbid all pleasures, how can the deprived forget what is rightfully his?
When you saw my distraction, heartsick with pining, you called it moral corruption.

9. Have you no pity for my anguished soul on the verge of death?
Be gentle, perhaps one smitten has never known such cruelty.

10. Divide my heart between you, take your share and leave me mine.
Fate did not give me but a sip of this delicate mortal existence,

11. Where my days were all kings, and time itself, the sovereign.
The maid of life, fair of form, cheeks flushed, hair black as onyx.

12. The gaze of the sickly eye that abandons me today once promised eternal devotion.
In the thick shade of youth's vines, branches laden with fruitful dreams.

13. Had time looped back to grant me but a moment of tenderness, no! That hour was too sublime.
An era indulged me, so I took liberties, unable to restrain its galloping passage.

14. Now that worldly pleasures have departed, my honor and dignity will sustain me.
My hands will not accept humiliation, nor will my steps be guided by the staff of injustice.

15. I am that unyielding lion, weakness of will cannot thwart me on the day of reckoning.
My clenched fists have a time-honored bond with the line of Ayyub.

16. A man worthy of the name wields his fists in battle, guided by his arrows.
A brother of the night rouses when chaos calls, responding to the beat of drums.

17. Revel in him, lament for the departed, fear no excuse for negligence to hinder you.
He brings clarity to the confused, rising above the slurred speech of drunkenness.

18. If a friend unintentionally wrongs you, let sincerity outweigh the offense.
Inhale his gentle nature, partake of the honeyed essence, leave the bitter sediment.

19. They were men who journeyed through eras, their souls refined as celestial bodies,
Shedding their natural ferocity, so a tranquil eye could gaze upon their countenance.

20. A poverty they wore with dignity, parchment leaves grazed by sorrow’s gentle hand.
Each page imbued with wisdom’s gleaming light, elusive as a desert mirage.

21. When the veil of time covers their faces with the dust of ages, and the leaves turn brittle,
There emerges from their depths a hollow reed, empty yet eternally resonating.

22. The passionless body pays it no heed, so rise to your purpose, O venerable one!
You have lived long, exceeding others, never pierced by the arrow of fate.

23. They sought your equal, but found only remote hamlets, inhabited by fair maidens.
You were peerless among them, your only kin the sun, your intimate friend.

24. How many hands have shaded me, thanks to you, as have my face and this sanctuary.
Bounties have embraced my life because of you, fruits nurtured in this garden.

25. Time has not torn my world apart, for you were there to mend each rupture.
A faltering friend you corrected, a failing ode you revived in the marketplace.

26. Leave me then the echoes of her laments, the neighing horse, the hooves that pound the earth,
Hearing from afar the din that shakes the land, even if it's become rubble and debris.

27. However eloquently expressed, meaning unravels without your discerning ear.
Sacrifice everything but honor, the noble lineage tying two homes as one.

28. Let Nawruz bring you the gift of praise, and the honor of applauding your wisdom.
Let your hands unfold the cheeks, and your chest relax the tightened breath.
