1. In every house there is an enemy of mine whom I placate,
And a reproacher whom I seek to avoid or appease.

2. And one who commands decorum which I do not obey,
My heart resists it though my appearance acquiesces.

3. He grieves for my passion yet does not shoulder my burden,
Nor comfort my heart though my ribs are his lodging.

4. It's as if I'm the first of lovers whose longing was prolonged,
Whose tears were rejected though plentiful.

5. They fault my loyalty to she whom I love, yet they know
That betrayal is a sin that I do not commit.

6. How can trust be sound for one like me
If love's secrets are not kept and pledges not honored?

7. Yes, I stood at the ruins asking about times past,
Though not every inquirer has attentive ears.

8. And sometimes one you address answers you
And you understand the words of one you do not see.

9. I have not been tempted by foolishness
To approach those who spurn me.

10. I did not stand to seek a vanished full moon,
Only for my eyes to catch its rising.

11. And all who lose their loved ones, their eyes
Roam the remnants seeking benefit.

12. The lightning in the clouds coquettishly keeps its tryst,
Unbelieved by its brilliant flashes.

13. A lion cloaked in valor humbles them,
Though garments hide his might from view.

14. A gazelle who denies the meadow to other souls,
For the blood he spills has made it his pasture.

15. No vengeance or feud is sought against him,
Nor is one who challenges him called a coward.

16. If he wishes, he denies; if he wishes, he admits
To the murder - his followers do not transgress.

17. How can he deny killings when his cheeks
Bare witness with blood or fingers betray him?

18. O you who have set an example amongst people becoming widespread,
Circulating amongst them while its source is hidden.

19. God has not empowered my eyelids against myself,
Except that my secret is lost in you.

20. The one who made betrayal a duty that I emulated
And whose laws allowed you to torment me.

21. Yes, it is fate, twisted are its creatures
To corruption, evil woven into their nature.

22. Do you not see kings betrayed by their slaves,
As their works are defiled with blasphemy?

23. Foxes conspiring together, while lions
Are not perturbed from their steadfastness.

24. I have not roared against them without seeing
The defiant of that group grow meek.

25. They saw your loyalty as a mark on their brows,
So their humility to you, if proud, is their nature.

26. Every hardened heart that is contested by tenderness
Eventually softens; your gifts contend over it.

27. How can necks you own disobey you
When you own them by right and your sword imprints them?

28. Does one conquered request your gifts?
Since you are the giver or seller.

29. They returned while your hands burden theirs,
Shackled by your favors or collectivized.

30. They pasture what the tyranny they planted bears fruit,
While the fruit of tyranny is known to perish.

31. Every unrighteous person seeks your pardon,
Fearing your might that dissuades the disputed.

32. Sufficient disgrace for your disobedient is your pardon
Of his crime, since humiliation intercedes for him.

33. You are like an unblunted sword that does not
Tire of forgiveness or lose its sharpness.

34. They wanted you while God wanted otherwise,
Can a group be separated when you unify it?

35. Customs run through your guarantee,
God does not mend what you have broken.

36. How many times before this were you blessed
With openings where the exit had narrowed?

37. While you were spacious of chest and broad of extent
As it tightened around you and its escape constricted.

38. Submitting and surrendering to His will
In what you undertake and defend against it.

39. So indulge your servants to the Giver of their obedience,
Since you obey by pardoning those who disobey.

40. And show kindness to them for they are the supporters of your state,
Vanquishing every opponent you subdue.

41. O He who when asked, "Is there a king except me?"
Sees no challenger disputing Him.

42. Those of your people who died hunting are alive
In your memory while their resting places are flooded.

43. Those alive in your realm, the noble lords,
You debase or raise as you please.

44. God has clothed you with kingship for the benefit
Of all worlds - so who contends with you over it?

45. Can a house of your men collapse,
Its pillars and foundations in your hands?

46. The pillar of your state yesterday was its first,
While you, O pillar of God's faith, are its fourth.

47. Kings have died implementing their disobedience,
Concealing an illness or spreading its infection.

48. The heavens cycle according to His judgment,
So whatever fortune runs its course.

49. You were their sword, glory its scabbard,
Polished, with the crown and pride its hilt.

50. You honored them, and the spear in hand thrust,
Your hands, when they gave generously, its springs flowed.

51. What sea on earth extends to the destitute through you
A hand except what you extend?

52. And any provision the fates constrict
Is plentiful with you, your range vast.

53. As if your wealth were an enemy you hate
So you deprive it of benefit and cut it off.

54. Vestiges of your generosity are upon those you raise,
Vestiges of your tyranny upon those you slay.

55. If you unsheathe your face, our souls find peace,
Or unsheathe your sword, our souls are awed.

56. No fixed wealth you spend,
No sealed lips you prevent from speaking.

57. Pulpits proclaim your name, guiding
Or misguided in their zealotry.

58. Until you see no difference between faiths,
No reign the turning sky interrupts.

59. Uniter of dominion, none describes you dual
Except your sons, as lion cubs follow.

60. Stars drawing light from the moon
Upon your brow, spreading and luminous.

61. Never emptying their positions in the sky
Nor it of them.

62. Eulogies visit you in most eloquent ode,
Embroidered with your exalted name made public.

63. It struts before your gifts taking pride
In its elegance, restraining tired breaths.

64. Of every alluring coquette once modesty departs her,
And refusal no longer deters the wanton.

65. The rider halts the passerby for his need,
Turning his head or twisting his eyebrows.

66. The singer finds its long verses too short,
As if the lines he recites have narrow endings.

67. Its intricate rhymes seem difficult to the aspiring poet
Except one like me who grasps and masters them.

68. One visits you bored and tired of them
Only for a connection to succeed it or longing to seize him.

69. Before you no traders in the commerce of generosity
Fell short in their goods and assets.

70. As for celebrations, some means are condoned
If deemed appropriate, and some channels endorsed.

71. That hope awaits this day watching,
So act judiciously in what you undertake.

72. And know the thronged council bows before you,
Prostrating in exaltation and kneeling in awe.

73. I have remained compliant to this poetry,
Its wonders for me alone or in its uniqueness.

74. If you hear something I did not say,
Do not doubt what you heard.
