As humility, though the free man seeks superiority

61. The opinions of my father Atarif were sincere
Though they rebuked me harshly

62. The confusion of time lifted from my heart
And the nights unlocked my shackles

63. And time came to me in repentance
Modestly, though it was stubborn

64. It joined me, a stranger, to family
Considered a protector and in-law

65. I leaned affectionately toward them
And time saw it blossom so it rejoiced

66. It tied affection to me through a brother
Who were two joys for me and a treasure

67. My voice came to him awakening
A lifetime when the people awoke Amr

68. A mark of nobility, O son of Basil, in generosity
That has not been subjected to force

69. Roots purified by your wealth in glory
Whose growth was lively and fertile

70. Your society was wholesome so I picked you like a rose
Of soft branches, and squeezed you like wine

71. Victory over you was a debt, though you have not
Fulfilled it except by repayment

72. Nobility summoned you, so you put on
Your sword for it and stood like a towering mountain

73. A nation lost in loyalty you revived
Radiant and proud

74. And a tongue that was once barren in praise
You fertilized with thanks and gratitude

75. So prepare for the rhymes' onslaught
Stirring by night, though they are no travelers

76. Marching the length and breadth of the land
Without reaching a speck of dust

77. Bearing the honor of your character
From an ocean of pearls in the saddlebags

78. Every beautiful gazelle, shining upon
Your shore in beauty, experienced or pure

79. I have not asked you to march alongside ambitions
Except with affection as your bride price

80. And truly, my heart has not opened
With praise to fill the heart for you

81. And poetry, so dear to others, saw you
As an equal, so it turned away haughtily

82. How many great ones it has refused
And turned its cheek, commanding and deterring!

83. So it has relented to follow you; now learn
Which approach I have made your back

84. Put on the robes of glory, the dress of honor
You will never wear out for an eternity

85. A condemner of years, folding
The length of years, era upon era, upon them

86. Ascend until I see you atop the most noble peak
More conspicuous in renown than the plateau of misguidance
