1. The doe stole by under the palm trees
The branches incline towards her neck

١. بالخَيْفِ مُخطَفَةُ الحشا
تهوَى الغصونُ لها القدودا

2. The gazelle took alarm at her
And lent her his eyes and neck

٢. أخذَ الغزالُ نِفارَها
وأعارها عَيناً وجِيدا

3. She grew used to the length of his absence
Would that she reckon the days again

٣. أَلِفتْ مِطال عِداتها
يا ليتها تعِدُ الصدودا

4. She shed my copious tears
For the sake of her peerless comic verse

٤. نثرتْ مدامِعيَ الفري
دَ لنظمِ مَضحَكِها الفريدا

5. My passion had become threadbare and worn
She breathed new life into it anew

٥. قد كان رثَّ هواي فاب
تسمتْ فردّتْه جديدا
