1. She grazed between the barriers and the palms for a month,
Thirsty, and gathered abundant showers.

2. Her mind is unleashed,
Seeing fertility more expansive than she can encircle.

3. Generous to the shepherd's staff,
If deterrence is unavoidable, then with gentleness.

4. No butting then suddenly galloping,
Dragging the robes without hosting a guest for dinner.

5. Until the next morning the son of Labūn came to the hill,
Seeing with the eye and the spring lush greenery.

6. So it was, the scent of morning breeze
And the softness of litter, though it may be bitter.

7. And water whose waves
Yearn for it in Bābil, most delicious and sweetest it was.

8. A land whose plants
Were watered one day, then abandoned and neglected.

9. Its summits and its slopes
Quarreled over, taken by force and robbery.

10. And protected by the spears of its horsemen
When the camels were driven away forcibly in groups.

11. In it are the gazelles and the protected,
Chosen from its possessions, aids and virgins.

12. The stars of the tribe, when they rose,
Eclipsed the stars, though they were flowers.

13. And every lady slowed by her robe,
Was swift what she embraced of neck and waist.

14. You see the branch, you'd think it in the breeze,
Her brother, even if one day it is stripped bare.

15. Secured though the night of the schemers has slept,
And the fires returned at night red.

16. The gaze of the stars passed straight,
A fantasy touched but did not find joy.

17. It touched an embraced lover,
Ejecting from it the memories of safety.

18. So nothing prevented it in the wilderness of estrangement
Except the night rendered it fragrant.

19. And when the surroundings lit up,
It thought the darkness was the full moon.

20. By God, Bābil sighing
Even if the dream enchanted it with magic and wine.

21. Since it is an abode that does not
Usually bear, most often, freedom.

22. And a slippery ground for the youth, it cannot be
For one needing and a son of virtue sheltered.

23. How long I arched my neck in it
Sluggishly and scrubbed my side in poverty.

24. And followed my habits and my resolve saying,
“Behind you in other than this Egypt is Egypt.”

25. It's enough harm to people like me walking among them
And seeking escape from them.

26. So why does fate burden a load upon me
Saying, “Why did God distance you from people for so long?”

27. Is it because, with my merit, I was generous
To your family, so you reciprocate me with evil?

28. And I never stopped disregarding your betrayal,
And denied your tyranny until it continued.

29. Had the days of the pillar of dignity lived long,
I would not have gotten betrayal from you.

30. So if his harvest time from it
Repelled your arrows completely and utterly.

31. I was the most honored protector so that I may
Fortify and forbid violation of the inviolable sanctuary.

32. I would have deterred you, and neither assault overturned me,
Nor did the lion flee from me.

33. The habits your hands owed me
As aid and victory against your misfortunes.

34. If you have torn from his palm
The rope of the covenant, lighting its wick cleverly.

35. And you began sighing for it pretentiously,
With its meteors you spent last night cunningly.

36. You did not lean except upon the generous,
And moved except to the most righteous.

37. How your ignorance cheated the heart of glory
Envying it, and the glory was cautioned.

38. You brought upon it the wing of filial disobedience rejoicing at it, You wrapped yourself in evil.
So ask about him, O fate, how

39. His firmness exhausted you and his patience wearied you.
And how you mobilized against him and climbed,

40. But could not topple his towering stature.
He kept you at bay until you turned

41. Your rotations from him, regrets and sorrow.
You were not, though you are the ferocious lion,

42. To hang on the free a claw or a nail.
Rather, it is a state that has departed

43. And a life shifting, time and again.
It is fortune, it rises where

44. It rises, and money returns where it returns.
The best of your children is he who, if

45. His state diminishes, his glory and pride increase.
And the man hoarded no better treasure for himself

46. Than praise, lineage - the most stored supplies.
When the honor of the noble is safe

47. And mighty - may God make it abundant.
Perhaps rattling it to prolong for it

48. In adversity, pulling and dragging.
And leaving it the middle road

49. To be led to both its goals evenly.
Then coming, how near is its arrival to purpose,

50. Fate will say to it forgiving and pardoning.
Clarifying the adversity it had harvested regretfully

51. Returning to you with news of what had passed.
You see in my journal repentance

52. A clear line, and for humiliation, a line.
By my life, if a quiver creaked,

53. It was followed by a lush branch from you.
With extensive shade over its people

54. A copious harvest, delicate, intoxicated.
A bond that their unity disperses

55. And a pillar that their ceiling collapses.
Through you the beads fastened again after

56. Sagging so it disabled completely neck and throat.
You brought together their bits after

57. They brandished the staff of separation, splitting and tearing.
And you were to them like your generous father

58. Gentle, kind, compassionate and righteous.
So neither did glory collapse while you were the dune,

59. Nor did Zayd die if you were ‘Amr.
They revolved around your club and you milked them,

60. So you perfected protection and poured abundance.
It did not harm them that they lacked rain,

61. For they found your traces more copious.
Imaginings I had augured long ago

62. And trained against you deterring.
And my chest was certain I would see you

63. To your family, a face, and to people, a bosom.
With what you had distanced them in ambition

64. And toughened them in adversities more tightly.
And narrowed them in excuses for requests

65. And broadened them the night of worth lavishly.
And clearer when ambiguities mixed,

66. Opinion, and faster tongue and flow.
Matters when gathered for the youth,

67. Whom God wanted in glory, command.
Block the day the sons of ‘Abd al-Raḥīm,

68. For tomorrow you are master of all people entirely.
And trust the good tidings conveyed to me,

69. For the glad-tidings have never lied to me.
I am the son of loyalty which you know

70. I never broke a promise nor harbored deceit.
Your partner when fate was bad to you

71. Just as I shared your joy when it was good.
An adornment over the slackening of the necklaces

72. Braided into a crown and strung finely.
So if time isolates you for a period,

73. By God, some estrangement but it was not abandonment.
Had it not been for the hands of destiny toying with you

74. It would not have been absent praise and gratitude.
