1. I know after you my standing at Al-Ajra'a
And your pleasure at my flowing tears

2. They rained heavily on your dwellings melting away
Boiling in the chest and burning inside

3. The tears did not cease flowing the night you departed
And the passion of longing in the excessive passion of the enamored

4. It melts my eyelids with tears between them
And passion is all passion if not accompanied by tears

5. Leave me be and whatever the eternal separators desire between us
And blame who obeys or disobeys you

6. I have no heart so I cannot understand blame, for I
Deposit it yesterday with the one bidding me farewell

7. Do those feeling heartache in places of farewell know
That the dwellings flourished more than my tears?

And harmed when able to benefit?

16. No harm if you winked a little
When parting or gestured with a finger

17. And promised me if our union returned
Alas, I will not remain until your return

18. Do you permit the easiest attainment
For me to complain of my passion to you and you listen?

19. Or witness my body and see the effects of distress
Or ask, if you wish, my tears bear witness?

20. For sickness is a sign of my suppressed love
And tears are proof of my claim

21. And be certain that I am enamored with your love
Then do with me as you wish to do

22. O friend, have you seen a hidden lightning
Like an unsheathed sword amidst the shining lightening?

23. Lightening when it flashes shakes my heart
And I remain anxious when it does not flash

24. The bountiful spring rained on lands
Where I saw the full moon one night

25. With what can I irrigate it with the flood of life?
My flowing tears suffice it

26. If I could, I would irrigate it with the flood of love
From the palm of Joseph the most beneficial

27. A youth of abundant generosity, if only his right hand’s bounty

28. Pouring the means of great deeds, enamored
Absorbed in the first fruits of generous acts

29. For the reverent, wellbeing of gentle breezes

And “O clouds of dew, do not recede!"

33. And if he is angry, he says to the earth: “Quake”
With lightning, and to the mountains: “Totter!”

34. And when he rose highest in glory
The great ambitions said to him: “Be transcendent!”

35. Steadfast of soul when hearts take flight
In awe, worth thousands of armored men

36. He excelled mankind with virtues never combined
In another, a king, nor gathered

37. Nothing deters him from aiding his successors
The enormity of the enemy or the distance of place

38. With regiments like floods pressing against each other
And when floods press against each other, they are not repelled

39. Whoever follows him, how much more faithful a follower he has
And more abundant in honor than who he follows

40. From a wafting fragrant branch, for which the world
Scented its air due to its beautiful fragrance

41. The indifferent, when an aspiration presents itself
And the facing, when called in distress

42. And those who spread wings shining white
And the armor piercers, multiplying coats of mail

43. A people, when the battle cry falls, hasten
Toward the fray with every courageous hero

44. They no longer raid the Romans far from their homes
The Gulf is closer for you to launch ships

45. If seven seas like the ocean
Were beyond them, and you increased them, they would not prevent you

46. How many praiseworthy stands you took in battle
Everlasting, and what excellent generosity you exhibited

47. Even the birds, trusting the ample provision
Followed your regiments above outspread forests

48. And after you people in generosity and supremacy
Are two kinds: either a thief or a pretender

49. O rain, do not rush and what my composition bears
Except one with an overflowing stream

50. I have returned to poetry after leaving it
Hoping for your generosity - what place hopes!

51. Asking for your generosity is honor for the asker
Your call is ennoblement and honor of position

52. So if you remain, I will not care for those passed
And if you give life, I will not mind any death

53. If not for you, I would not accept contentment and my
Lowliness after long superiority and self-sufficiency

54. So submit across the passage of time enjoying
Your great rule and highest position
