1. For whose tent waving at the towering peak
Does the basil plant's aroma waft and reek?

١. لَمِنْ خِيَمٍ تَلُوحُ بِذي طَلوُحِ
تَضَوَّعَ نَشْرُ قَيْصُومٍ وَشِيحِ

2. A land with heights, those sloping bases,
Belonging to Salma, ever tearfully weak,

٢. دِيَارٌ بِالعَوَاصِمِ ذَاتُ سَفْحٍ
لِسَلْمَى دَائِمِ الدَّمْعِ السَّفُوحِ

3. Her mouth smiles though the night is murky,
So the sorrows awake for the morn's first streak.

٣. تَبَسَّمَ ثَغْرُهَا واللَّيْلُ دَاجٍ
فَنَبَّهَتِ النَّدَامَى لِلصَّبُوحِ

4. How can night remain with the light of day?
Especially with keen sight and vision sleek!

٤. وَكَيْفَ بَقَاءُ لَيْلٍ مَعْ نَهَارٍ
ولاَ سِيماَ لِذِ النَّظَر الصَّحِيحِ

5. O patron of the lithe, for my body prepare
With your cup - my soul's life, its essence and pique!

٥. أَيّا لَدْنَ القَوامِ أَعِدْ لِجِسْمِي
بِكَاسِكَ يَا فَدَتٍْكَ النَّفْسُ رُوحي

6. For through it my life after death continues on
Thus titled the blood of Christ the meek.

٦. فَإِنَّ بِهَا حَيَاتِي بَعْدَ مَوْتِي
لِهَذَا لُقِّبَتْ بِدَمِ المَسَيحِ

7. See the doves sing songs
In odes of eloquent meanings oblique

٧. أَلَسْتَ تَرَى الحَمَائِمَ قَدْ تَغَنَّتْ
بِلَحْنٍ مُعْجَمِ المَعْنى فَصِيحِ

8. Reminding you of youth and companions
And copying your repentance, genuine and unique.

٨. تُذكِّرُك الصَّبابَةَ والتَّصَابِي
وَتنْسَخُ حُكْمَ تَوْبَتِكَ النَّصُوحِ
