Protected and a place for the peer to ride behind

17. Branching forelegs accompany it in every slope and sandy plain
Burning crooked legs, pure and white

18. Twins, cohorts in succession, followers
Similar, infatuated, playful, and fluttering

19. The anklets slip from her skinny shanks
As the turban slips from the head of an old man, an ally

20. When the people’s mounts are saddled among them
The pathways of night, among them weak and diverting

21. It rose above its litter after the noon winds and was forgiving
Like carded cotton which the waves spray upon it
