By your life, Tufail ibn Malik

1. By your life, Tufail ibn Malik
Of Bani Amir did not grieve when the cavalry were behaving arrogantly,

2. As he bid farewell to his beloved Khaifanah at Jurshu'a,
A descendant of famous stallions at Jurshu',

3. And parted from his loyal brothers at Qurzul,
Passing like the bright comet of Walid when it flares up,

4. Had the horsemen reached him he would have fled on his feet
As Ka'b ibn Asim fled on the day of Al-Khal,

5. You fled to save your mother's son, Amir,
Who plays with the edges of torn garments,

6. And your enemies know well that you
Inform them of the army's every move.
