1. We belong to God, and to Him is the final return
No living being has a lasting stay

2. We belong to God and to Him we shall return
Whether one dies young or lives a thousand years, the outcome is the same

3. A man rejoices in the morning, unaware of what the evening will bring
The pleasures of this world are brief and futile

4. Sorrow has made people disgusted with life
We have been terrified by the awful news

5. Oh Qasr Al-Heelwan, you were the most splendid palace
Where the air was sweet and pleasant

6. You were majestic, intimidating the brave
And the warriors would bow before you

7. How have you become desolate?
So that enemies can now climb your strong walls

8. We never knew you to be like this, your nights shaken
Or subject to such destruction

9. Just yesterday, within your walls was Al-Abbas
Reviving the living with his light

10. But the calamities have taken away his warmth
Though he suffered for your prosperity

11. And what weeping from those who mourned him
As they buried this noble one, with nobles crying over him

12. They found solace in tears, for grief is but
When hearts and thoughts overflow

13. He lived amongst us, gentle and virtuous
Quenching thirsty souls

14. And he left while bosoms still craved
What no water could satisfy

15. Egypt's glory ended when he left
Just as the beauty of its ornaments

16. What speech could console after him?
Only his words brought comfort

17. What can lamenters say to those who've lost a dear soul?
What can poets attempt?

18. Some sayings ease the pain, while others make
The eloquent stammer

19. Your master was the best whose radiance illuminated the land
His light over his crown dimmed all other lights

20. His wisdom would clear the clouds of disasters
When opinions faltered before him

21. He knew best how to gain praise
If only praise immortalized souls!

22. Oh honorable Tawfiq family, you donned patience as your cloak
So patience is an excellent garment

23. You are steadfast in the knowledge of what fate brings
Say then, who can escape death?

24. Where are the people who built and ruled the land?
Craved by the elite

25. They owned the earth for ages then became
Its citizens and lodgers in their graves

26. To each soul is a book and appointed time
When it comes, the decree can't be reversed

27. God's way in His creation does not exclude
Kings or prophets

28. I won't console you, for I say
The wise are consoled by the likes of this

29. Thank God in the eve and morn, for misery is always
Shadowed by bliss

30. If darkness falls over your sky, Al-Abbas with his light
Can illuminate it

31. Al-Abbas has shown us after his father
How great men face mighty events

32. He inherited rule from his father, and when
He assumed power, hope filled us

33. And we saw him as a towering glory, a wall erected
Around the nation with his rule

34. How excellent that his ambition leaves hardship subdued
His pride humbled, his stance firm

35. And firm principles, wisdom and refusal
Of qualities beyond grasp or counting

36. May he forever adorn time with goodness
And bestow gifts without end
