1. This existence that we know through custom
Is not the existence we know through unveiling

2. The intellect is ignorant of it and thought denies it
Remembrance reveals it and mystery conceals it

3. It is God, though you know not its manifestations
That it is the same as Him, and truth makes it ambiguous

4. To the minds that habits veil from it
Thus they deny what secrets comprehend

5. Except for one of every group
For your Lord honors him with knowledge

6. O Lord, forgiveness and pardon, I am a man
If asked to do something, I know it not

7. Except by Your command, for a servant has no
Disposal without an order You make known to him

8. You granted me a hidden bounty, so I spoke of it
Yet it was not proper, what his mouth has spoken

9. You reproached Your servant for it, then pardoned him
To preserve him, as You inspire him

10. You erased it from hearts You know
With drowsiness or sleep, so his blood was protected

11. I did not know the matter was thus
With God, and that blame attaches to it

12. Were it not for His love of us, He would punish us
And none honored by the Merciful is humiliated

13. What my Lord willed I should conceal
I wanted to express, but the state renders it unintelligible

14. Except to a heart our Creator willed
To know it, so the tongue of time censures it

15. Like the Tunisian, and whoever follows his path
Of hearts that give and conceal it

16. I gave each place what befits it
And spoke appropriately, not rendered speechless

17. He says "Be" to the saying, so it becomes thereby
Afterwards, He comes to it, regretting it

18. If He had not created it, its reality would not appear
But He, by the known, rules the knowledge

19. And judges it thereby, so the truth gave Him allegiance
But occurrence of the entity deludes it
