1. I have no way to knowledge,
I have no guide to lead me there.

2. By God, I confess my incapacity;
No prophet or messenger am I.

3. Nor are the minds which you suppose
Able to grasp their own essence, so tell me:

4. What can the world do, when it is told
"Know!" yet knows not what to say?

5. If in my incapacity there lies true knowledge,
Then the path has been made smooth.

6. By God, I am perplexed by my existence;
For it is the generosity of the noble.

7. If I say that manifestation is in it,
And that judgment belongs to me, minds are confused;

8. Or if I say that manifestation is in us through it,
I have no proof of that.

9. Both it and we in our existence are perplexed,
We have no way to attain it.

10. We have no knowledge of the God
Except what the Friend established,

11. Giving him clear knowledge of it,
The degrees of light and acceptance.

12. Then he denied that he saw the Lord
With a proof that declines.

13. He established Him as proof against those
Who associated partners with the Exalted Tribe.

14. So he made the Essence One, not doubled;
The attribution of partner is absurd.

15. His declaring Unity for Him whom you see
As attributes, all of them roots.
