1. If things seem strange beyond comprehension,
The origin and perfume are equal in creation.
١. إذا كانت الأشياء تبدو عن الأمر
تساوى الدنيّ الأصل والطيِّب النجرِ
2. They struck him down claiming,
If struck, he would not rise from his burial site.
٢. لقد ضربوه قاطعين بأنه
إذا ضربوه لا يقوم من القر
3. But he spoke to the people, then restored him
To his original state at the break of dawn.
٣. فأنطقه للقوم ثم أعاده
إلى الحالة الأولى إلى مطلعِ الفجر
4. As the pebbles glorified in the hand of the Master,
And his companions were like shining stars.
٤. كما سبَّح الحصباءُ في كفِّ سيِّدٍ
وأصحابه الأعلام كالأنجمِ الزهر
5. The miracles were only their hearing,
And this that came was a type of prose.
٥. فما كانت الآيات إلا سماعهم
وهذا الذي قد جاء ضربٌ من النثر
6. Everyone has a state and appointed time,
A time for unveiling and a time for concealment.
٦. وكلٌّ له حالٌ ووقتٌ مُعيَّن
فحالٌ إلى كَشفٍ ووقتٌ إلى ستر
7. One from Damascus would not see him acting,
Yet sees him alive if from Egypt.
٧. فما كان من شام يراه ممثلاً
فيبصره حيّاً إذا كان من مصر
8. He who resembled me came a stranger, asserting
What they both said, nothing objectionable in it.
٨. وجاء الذي مثلي غريباً مقرّراً
يقول الذي قالاه ما فيه من نُكرِ
9. Whoever wants may disbelieve, and whoever wants may say,
I am certainly right in the matter.
٩. فمن شاء فليكفر ومن شاء فليقل
بأني على حق يقينٍ من الأمر
10. By the strength of my faith in what my Creator said,
And my truthfulness which God has asserted in my conscience.
١٠. لقوّةِ إيماني بما قال خالقي
وصدقي الذي قد قرّر الله في صدري
