1. I imagined my beloved to be beyond my image
So I estimated proximity through yards and inches

2. To revive my heart with union and encounter
And slay me with aloofness and separation from him

3. He strips a branch of its straight and sturdy wood
And smiles, revealing a pearl and unveiling a full moon

4. And he makes for us a river of sweet unadulterated milk
And the finest honey, water, and wine

5. With it, he extends my existence for I am of four
Created with them, my two lives without command

6. With the command for creation in every state
Yet I know not its meaning, nor do I know, I do not know

7. I came to him by a smooth and easy path
Though bumpy, on a mount and rough terrain

8. With rhythmic strumming on strings by charming maidens
Who incline us with love, not drunkenness

9. So when we contemplated, we found our existence
In His beautiful names, and so I set forth reciting them

10. To the world of the cosmos, informing them
As the Merciful informed in the decisive Scripture
