1. God illuminated the heavens with its stars
To guide in the darkness of night on the roads

2. And illuminated the air with radiant whiteness
And illuminated the mind with Oneness and creation

3. And illuminated the heart with diverse lights
For He accommodated the mentioned in Surat Al-'Alaq

4. And the light of the full moon with its whiteness when it sets
Is found in its course by the text and inference

5. As it illuminates horizons seen
In the east and west out of kindness at dusk

6. And the light of the body with the spirit so it spread
Its lights spread like the spreading of light in the dawn

7. And the light of the earth with flowers so it smiled
Revealing vivid red and white chicory

8. And the secret was darkened by passions wherever they fell
From the layers that revealed beyond layers

9. And the mind was darkened in its thoughts because of
And the soul was darkened by greed and attachment

10. And the transgressor was darkened by his nature
By eating carrion and drinking wine

11. And the created child from hidden germs
In three that came in order was darkened

12. So there is no light unless faced
By its opposite as dusk faces dawn

13. For that, one who went astray, in his words
With two who disagreed regarding this into sects

14. And all came to him in his thinking
From God matters that cannot be endured

15. For that their words differed regarding it
Between qualified statement and outrightness

16. And everyone who spoke a creed
Made tradition a shackle on the neck

17. Listening and reasoning so one with insight will not cease
From confusion to provoke and burn

18. So you see everyone who was shrewd
For a time on sweat leading to burning
