1. Oh! Sadness in the morning, O visitor who
Came to us, so he revived us from the dear, prized presence

2. So I said to him welcome, greetings, and hello
To the bearer of good tidings who came from a purer source

3. So he said, “Peace be upon you,
And greetings upon you, and regards from the gentle, kindly one

4. Of the banners, nothing concealed me except its remains
So I said to him, “the banners,” and he said, “It is the banners.”

5. The full moon rose in my eye,
And on my cheek a necklace, and on my wrist a bracelet

6. So I said to it, “Who are you?” It said, “You did not recognize me
I am your soul that appeared to you in kindness.”

7. So I turned away from it so I could attain being near it
And I lowered my head, I did not raise to it a glance.

8. And I was impassioned with love for my own self but did not realize
And I was filled with confusion and my container was stuffed.

9. And the steeds of the wind galloped with generosity and zeal
And no wind blew or glanced that outran it.

10. And the True God came for judgment and decree
About unveiling, and the angels in rows for Him, row by row

11. About the ruling, about our beings, and His knowledge is of it
And they did not leave out anything I knew a letter of.

12. For that reason, God’s authority was supreme
Over the adversary, by sacred law or unveiling witnessing.

13. And the breeze of nearness blew from the side of ardor
So it gifted us the scent of its ambergris fragrance.

14. I was detained by the one who was to me as though he were
My heart and my limbs, by my preoccupation with him and pause.

15. And when I stopped sending him signals in our existence,
His presence sent to me in response the signals I had sent.

16. And his spirits stir clouds of his knowledge
To my empty interior, aiming there, gusting them as a gust,

17. Lightning from it flashes for the beholding eye of my humanity,
And the brilliance of his lightning nearly snatched it away in a snatch.

18. And thunder succeeds it, glorifying
To restrain it, so my mercy shreds it to pieces.

19. The patter of the rain comes through breaches in them,
So God’s earth becomes like a well-watered meadow.

20. I smelled in it a scent with the flags of a banner,
As though its protectiveness drank fresh pure water.

21. And when its branches drew near to be picked,
I plucked from it as the Prophet plucked for them a pick.

22. And when I remembered the Messenger and his deed
Upon the like of this, I did not stop seeking the sworn pact,

23. The inheritance from the one by whom God revived his heart,
Even if I were the inheriting successor, the last successor.

24. Oh! I hope my confusion will disappear,
And I hope for guidance and kindness from God,

25. If the face appears to me in the eye of my bewilderment,
I will be steadfast with it, and by it I will be most diligent.

26. Signs for it are clear to me, of sound proof,
And its flags between spiritual stations are not hidden.
