1. I was sent to seek the truth
At times confirming it, at times denying

2. A mind purifying it, a law picturing it
So I know not by which rule I should seek it

3. If I say by law, the mind says it is ignorant
If I say by mind, the law says it transgresses

4. The froth of soap disappears when filthy
It stands by the clothes and washing sweeps it

5. God has affirmed what thoughts deny
And stood by the rule to purify beliefs

6. The law brought it down until I said that I
Am the eye of God, and mind came to exclude it

7. If you count, my God, what you bestow
Upon servants, then I do not count it

8. So I said to myself, this text came with it
Accept it, O self, and to the wise reserve it

9. Its share is literally, do not interpret it to anyone
To the wise of little thought, allot it

10. If minds come seeking traces
In its story, beware, and do not allot it

11. Allot it privately with what came to you
And do not add to what its confidant confined it
