1. Praise be to Allah, the Exalted
The All-Knowing Creator of all

2. He brought me together when I was naught
I knew not of any creature or Creator

3. Until our eyes opened onto the universe
I knew for certain that He is the Creator

4. He is One with no partner
Except truth, how could there be any doubt?

5. If they knew what I said, they would prostrate
Every insightful one with superior knowledge

6. A mirage reflecting in the seeing person
Waves of light submerging him

7. A mirage, though its lovers vary
In love it is delicious sweet drink

8. A drink, when called upon in their gatherings
Reciting to them, all eloquent

9. They look not to another, lest it distracts them
And they be wary of the sudden darkness

10. All of them beautiful in God's beauty when it emerged
To the passionate, love-dazed beholders

11. Or had they realized what they saw, they saw it only
For them, but blindness overtook them

12. He who split the dawn said to us
That it is for the eyes and for love's severing

13. Where is the dawn and where is love? Contemplate
His sun of guidance rises radiant in the east

14. The dawn was made for the eyes
And love for the spirit, see the difference

15. Love is nobler than the eye of dawn, so be
Certain in what you came with, confident

16. Prioritize it over dawn, for if
You equate them, you are not truthful

17. Dawn is old for the eyes, and so is
Love for this faint aspirer

18. A spirit born of love born
Of light born of the Sustainer's care

19. God succeeds Him and God succeeds Him
Thus He is timeless, sublimest of names

20. You combined eloquent phrasing
With elegant meaning, learnings of the Master Foregoer

21. If I was not foremost in all
The chronicles spoke, I was the pursuing emulator

22. I hurl the clear truth upon
Whatever falsehood to make it perish
