1. O you who are passionate about remembrance
In the state of intercession and the night prayer

2. If the circumstances of time have narrowed for you
My chest has not narrowed for your eyes

3. How expansive is the heart when my limbs believed
In all that comes to pass

4. I did not know that the heart has scope for you
If not for the one who told me, my secret

5. When He manifested to us seeking
In a night given over to the dawn

6. You are the one who told me what
I understood thereby, secretly and openly

7. On the tongue of the Master of Mankind
Of good ancestry, from Fihr

8. I did not come to you with the matter from outside
Rather, I came to you with the matter from a sea

9. In which the waves surge, as much
As breaths come in remembrance

10. So if you remember, then remember Him with what
He recited in the Qur’an, the Remembrance

11. Do not remember Him with what you speculate
For the branch gives strength to the root

12. I remembered Him one day heedlessly
With other than what the heart intended

13. So I did not find in the taste of the harvest
The taste I know well from reports

14. I found it like manna in its taste
And the clear difference in sugar

15. With wakefulness, His remembrance always comes
And contraction, and coolness with abundance

16. While remembrance from me is the opposite
It brings you sweetness and heat

17. So remember Him amidst our litanies
Between the nights, the Night of Ordainment

18. Glory to Him who made me a knower
After I had been like one immersed
