يا لائمي إن لم تكن عيننا

1. O you who blame me, if our eyes
Were not themselves, O you who blame me, then be sad

١. يا لائمي إنْ لم تكن عينُنا
ذواتهم يا لائمي كن همُ

2. Not everyone who freed his breath
Is inspired by everything you brought

٢. ما كلُّ من حرَّر أنفاسَه
لكلِّ ما جئتَ به يلهم

3. Indeed, this young man who gives advice
Clarifies what he said and does not equivocate

٣. إنَّ الفتى الناصحَ هذا الذي
يوضح ما قال ولا يُبهم

4. Indeed, those who came to them with advice
Conveying and caring, if they were sad

٤. إنَّ الذي جاءهم نصحاً
مبلغاً ومشفقاً إنْ همُ

5. They would, for what they had heard, be its people
And in our presence the listener understands

٥. كانوا لما قد سمعوا أهله
وعندنا السامعُ من يفهم

6. I devoted it to the letter 'haa' to its 'meem'
And this rule in poetry does not necessarily apply

٦. ألزمته الهاء إلى ميمها
وحكم ذا في الشِّعر لا يلزم
