1. All who wish in existence to connect
With my existence have wished the impossible

2. We traversed longing and yearning
To see the secret, long roads and sands

3. Then when I reached Him
I found none but us, so I suffered more

4. I said "My Lord" and He replied "Here I am, My servant"
I found only confusion leading me astray

5. He said to me "This is how it is, so know
The seekers of Him only gained delusion"

6. Every heart that seeks to reach Him
Is taught by parting from the Exalted

7. And likewise whoever says "My Lord" in their heart
Is truthful, and the truthful gained nothing

8. A confusion like His, so a passionate one said
Plunging into a mirage seeking fresh water

9. Then when he came to Him he found
Nothingness fulfilled, and it had been empty

10. Ignorance is proven here, and also
He found God with him, so it sufficed

11. The Companion of the Family was best prepared
My brothers, have you seen or heard

12. That someone came to Him and inclined
Away from Him, from the unfulfilled

13. No, by the right of God, His majesty exalted
We did not see Him in other than the essence of Truth

14. And deemed it only to be imaginary
He is the ordained, understood path

15. His light came veiled in the letter Kaf
To hearts that drew near Him in yearning

16. So He clothed them in awe and beauty
No, by the right of passion and its pursuers

17. We did not see in separation other than union
No desiring seeker attained

18. The essence of the Beloved's existence but thorns
So seek the matter through existence, you will find it

19. At the vein of the wrist complaining of trials
I said "Since you are here," He said "My lifetime

20. Is that I came from my Lord as an example
And I want only my God

21. I do not wish to connect with other than God," He said
"The essence of my existence, O youth, is independence

22. He who saw the full moon in us knows for certain
That it was the crescent in vision"

23. Then as the matter increased in us
It returned diminishing, seeking perfection

24. Every imperfection you see is perfection
For the one in whom the example came that

25. The thing hides behind it, and it is unveiling
To one who knows the lawful as lawful

26. The ruling of knowledge is that what was stoning
It was aflame in the air

27. It is a star as you see, but
The atmosphere made room for the stoning

28. It is fire, and in reality it is light
In it is occupation for one who wishes to be occupied

29. And the Lord came to the heat within it
Mercy for the creation, so it cast shadows

30. We enjoyed it, so we lived like kings
We do not seek conflict, so we do not seek fighting

31. In bliss through it, and cool shade
Rested, not tasting decay

32. If you wish to be a dwelling within it
Fast more here, and draw near

33. All who leaned away from you in what you see
Do not say of them that they leaned from you

34. Lest you provoke the enemy in word and deed
And please the loyal one in deed and state

35. Attachment was named for leaning
Toward you, and the servant leaned away distracted
