1. The caravans of Al-Abraq departed in succession
And I strengthened their tents and dwellings

2. No heart since the farewells has been joyous
Nor has life been good since the separation became prolonged

3. My friend turned towards the abode
He has dwellings in the hearts of lovers

4. It is my way that after his family
I shed my tears before him and implore

5. And I always give love in any case
His consent though the beauties frown at me

6. Shall I ascend the valley whose people departed?
Its valleys overflow with youthful waters

7. In your life, does the life of reunion recur
Restored by that transient mixture?

8. And where did the coolness of the dawns and early nights go?
You abandoned me at dawn and at the early nights

9. My encounter with the springs used to be sweet
Since they appeared, the springs turned brackish for me

10. O breeze that called out to Al-Abraq, so be
A throbbing heart and pouring tears

11. O sweet well-trodden roads between Rama
And Sala', when did the traveling women pass you?

12. Suns of morning whose tears flowed at sunset
In the houses of dusk whose mansions are dark

13. Gardens of beauty crowned by the hand of life
Branches of sincerity stirred by nightingales

14. Roots of beauty seized without their thicket
Despite the hands of separation and its fetters

15. And they blamed me when my letters did not reach them
Even if they arrived, the letters would not have convinced me

16. I implore that I am deprived
Of all letters and without communication

17. And that my life is to die loving you
And my living is that suffering is my dwelling

18. The righteousness of my heart is to melt in its sea
And the comfort of my eyes is to look while confused

19. My friend, I have picked some of the scent of their presence
And I have burning yearning as my entertainment

20. Preoccupied with news of times gone by
While life is harsh and the loved one corresponded

21. And the hour when I gave my vow as a lover
There, and as the loved, listening and speaking

22. And between us then there was something disturbing
And between us only passion and communication

23. And take from a talk whose beauty comforts
The heart of the lovesick youth and consoles the spurned

24. Abu Al-Fuqara’, the son of the supporters of Ahmed
Upon him the greetings of the generous continually

25. So in his day through generosity he gives life to creatures
And at night he gives life to the night and the waning moon

26. And that is his way every day and night
For all time, never forgotten nor ceasing
