1. Man has from his passions an insistent commander,
Enticing and from his wisdom a forbidder,
١. للمرءِ من شهوتِهِ آمِرٌ
مُغرٍ ومِن حِكمَتِهِ ناهي
2. And the free man is he who abandon what he craves,
To safeguard honor and distinction,
٢. والحُرُّ من يهجرُ ما يشتهي
صيانةً للعرضِ والجاهِ
3. And whoever wants triumph must believe
Truly and wear the garment of God-fearing,
٣. ومَن أرادَ الفوزَ فليعتقد
حقاً ويلبس ثَوبَ أَوّاهِ
4. And know God through His actions,
And know the actions through God.
٤. وليعرف اللّه بأفعالِهِ
وليعرِف الأَفعالَ باللّهِ
