1. Time's but what's past, once gone, for aye afar,
And what's to be, how clear soe'er we scan,
١. وما الدَّهْرُ إلاّ ما مضى فهوَ فائتٌ
وما سوفَ يأتي فهوَ غَيرُ مُفَصَّلِ
2. Is but confused dreams undefined and far.
Thy fortune's what thou hast and holdest; man
٢. فحظُّكَ مِمّا أنتَ فيهِ فإنَّهُ
زَمانُ الفَتى من مُجْمَلٍ ومُفَصَّلِ
