1. With your charming excuses, I excuse you,
O jewel of the adorned sword.
١. بِعِذارِكَ الْفَتَّانِ أعذَرْ
يا وَجْنَةَ السَّيْفِ الْمُجَوْهَرْ
2. A line on a cheek reveals and conceals
a softness, greener than grass.
٢. خَطٌّ عَلى خَدٍّ يَكا
دُ لِرِقَّةٍ يَخْفَى وَيَظْهَرْ
3. Its partner splits to reveal
a tender willow, pleasing to the eye.
٣. فَشَقيقُهُ يَنْشَقُّ عَنْ
آسٍ يَرُوقُ الْعَيْنَ أَخْضَرْ
4. My lord, your face is paradise
and your soft drink is abundant nectar.
٤. مَوْلاَيَ وَجْهُكَ جَنَّةٌ
وَرُضابُكَ الْمَعسولُ كَوْثَرْ
5. The musk of its seal exudes
a perfumed and sugared fragrance.
٥. يَفْتَرُّ مِسْكُ خِتامِهِ
عَن مُسْكِرٍ عَطِرٍ وَسُكَّرْ
6. You are of the lineage of Japheth, exhaling
a toothbrush that keeps me awake and casts spells.
٦. مِنْ نَسْلِ يافِثَ نافِثٌ
وَسْنانُ يُسْهِرْني وَيَسْحَرْ
7. Smiling with emeralds
from a necklace of rubies and jewels.
٧. مُتَبَسِّمٌ بِزُمُرُّدٍ
عَن عِقْدِ ياقُوتٍ وَجَوْهَرْ
8. Your hair curled like the darkness of night
and I thought dawn had broken.
٨. وَلَّى بِشَعْرٍ كَالدُّجى
وَبَدا فَقُلْتُ الصُّبْحُ أَسْفَرْ
9. Never before your camphor-like brow
did amber grow from it.
٩. ما خِلْتُ قَبْلَ جَبينِهِ الْ
كافُورِ يَنْبُتُ مِنْهُ عَنْبَرْ
10. O narrow-eyed one, thus is the maimed Indian.
O waist-branch, no belt can tie you, knotted with a dagger.
١٠. يا قاصِرَ الطَّرْفِ الْغَضِي
ضِ كَذالِكَ الْهِنْدِيُّ أَبْتَرْ
11. O full moon, how many lost souls
in the night of your abandonment wandered astray.
١١. يا غُصْنُ خَصْرُكَ لا يُطي
قُ حِياصَةً عُقِدَتْ وَخِنْجَرْ
12. Be gentle with one in love whom, whenever
he hides his affliction, it surfaces.
١٢. يا بَدْرُ كَمْ مِنْ تائِهٍ
فِي لَيْلِ هَجْرِكَ قَدْ تَحَيَّرْ
13. The body has turned sallow, emaciated,
while tears from the eyes are red.
١٣. رِفْقاً بِصَبٍّ كلَّما
أَخْفَى بَلِيَّتَهُ تَشَهَّرْ
14. If not for tears melting him,
a sigh would have ignited and flared up.
١٤. الجِسْمُ أَصْفَرُ ناحِلٌ
دَنِفُ وَدَمْعُ الْعَيْنِ أَحْمَرْ
15. Whoever loves the lovely gazelle
sleeps while his critic stays awake.
١٥. لَوْلا الدُّموعُ أَذابَهُ
نَفَسٌ تَصَعَّدَ بَلْ تَسَعَّرْ
16. My flirtations are for him and my praises
are allotted to our master, the victorious.
١٦. مَنْ يَعْشَقِ الظَّبْيَ الْغَري
رَ يَنامُ عاذِلُهُ وَيَسْهَرْ
17. The noble, the affable, the dewy,
the Shah of Armenia, Musa the triumphant.
١٧. غَزَلِي لَهُ وَمَدائِحي
وَقْفٌ لِمَوْلانا مُقَرَّرْ
18. A king - if you support him, he enriches,
and if you oppose him, he impoverishes.
١٨. الأشْرَفُ الطَّلْقُ النَّدى
شَاهَ ارْمَنٍ موسى الْمُظَفَّرْ
19. He ruins and he builds like time,
so he continues to be complained of and thanked.
١٩. مَلٌْك إِذْا وَالَيْتَهُ
أَغْنى وَإِنْ عادْيتَ أَفْقَرْ
20. He pours with the edge of his sword crimson
or with his spear-head, brown.
٢٠. يُردي وَيُجْدي كالزَّما
نِ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُشْكى وَيُشْكَرْ
21. Pure is the gazelle and her pasture
from every blemish, purified.
٢١. صَبُّ بِحَدِّ السَّيْفِ أَحْ
مَرَ أوْ بِقَدِّ الرُّمْحِ أَسْمَرْ
22. It is as if his sword is a preacher
and his inspiration a pulpit.
٢٢. نَجِسُ الظُّبَى وَنِجارُهُ
مِن كُلِّ مَنْقَصَةٍ مُطَهَّرْ
23. He prayed in the prayer niche of heroism
and "God is great" is his call to prayer.
٢٣. فَكَأنَّ صارِمَهُ خَطِي
بٌ مِصْقَعٌ وَإلْهامَ مِنْبَرْ
24. Among the spears, it is as if they are
a flood upon a fierce lion.
٢٤. صَلَّى بِمِحْرابِ الطُّلَى
وَصَليلُهُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرْ
25. And it is as if he, among the ships
and battleships and vessels,
٢٥. بَيْنَ الرِّماحِ كَأَنّها
غيلٌ عَلى أسَدٍ غضَنْفَرْ
26. is a mountain, surrounded by
a green sea of waves.
٢٦. وَكَأَنَّهُ بَيْنَ الْمَوا
كِبِ وَالْقَواضِبِ وَالسَّنَوَّرْ
27. In his conquests, he is righteous, even
if he kills the enemy, for one who perceives.
٢٧. جَبَلٌ تَلاطَمَ حَوْلَهُ
بَحْرٌ مِنَ الْمَاذِيِّ أخْضَرْ
28. The washing of horsemen with blood
while in the stomachs of birds they are buried.
٢٨. فِي فَتْكِهِ بِرٌّ وَإنْ
قَتَلَ العَدُوَّ لِمَنْ تَبَصَّرْ
29. When the clouds of his army from
his arrows drink, it pours like torrents.
٢٩. غَسْلُ الفَوَارِسِ بِالدِّما
ءِ وَفِي بُطونِ الطَّيْرِ تُقْبَرْ
30. His clouds poured down
lightning from his arrows and calamities like fire.
٣٠. قاسٍ إِذْا اسْتَسْقَتْ عِدا
هُ وَمارِجُ الْهَيْجاءِ يُسْعَرْ
31. O noble king, the qualities of your glory cannot be quantified.
O you who forgets his deeds
٣١. سَحَّتْ سَحابُ عَجاجِهِ
مَنْ نَبْلِهِ وَبْلاً كَنَهْوَرْ
32. yet he is the one repeated and reiterated.
O inheritor of his fathers'
٣٢. يا أَيُّها الْمَلِكُ الْكَري
مُ صِفاتُ مَجْدِكَ لَيْسَ تُحْصَرْ
33. glory, on the Day of Resurrection to be mentioned.
You were granted in this life through him
٣٣. يا ناسِياً لِصَنِيعِهِ
وَهُوَ الْمُرَدَّدُ وَالْمُكَرَّرْ
34. glory, and in the hereafter much more.
For if he chose you for himself,
٣٤. يا مُورِثاً آباءَهُ
شَرَفاً لِيَوْمِ الْحَشْرِ يُذْكَرْ
35. you will be fortunate with the one you chose.
So pride yourself on your soul
٣٥. لَكَ سِيْرَةٌ مَعَ عَدْلِها
بَأْسٌ فَمَنْ كِسْرَى وَقَيْصَرْ
36. or through it, for it suffices as pride.
And congratulate yourself on a fast
٣٦. وَلَكَ الْجَمالُ مَعَ الْجَمي
لِ فَمَنْظَرٌ حَسَنٌ وَمَخْبَرْ
37. whose reward is like one who prayed and broke fast.
And you will remain as long as praise of you
٣٧. يا عَبْدَ مَوْلانا الإِما
مِ جَلالُ هذا النَّعْتِ أَشْهَرْ
38. as victorious and triumphant remains.
O servant of our master the Imam,
٣٨. أُوتِيتَ فِي الدُّنْيا بِهِ
شَرَفاً وَفِي أُخْراكَ أكْثَرْ
39. the majesty of this elegy is more prominent.
You were given through it, in this world, nobility
٣٩. فإِنَ اصْطفاكَ لِنَفْسِهِ
فَلَيَسْعَدَنَّ بِمَنْ تَخَيَّرْ
40. and in your final abode, much more.
For if he chose you for himself
٤٠. فَافْخَرْ عَلى الدُّنْيا بِنَفْ
سِكَ أوْ بِهِ فَكَفاكَ مَفْخَرْ
41. you will surely be happy with the one who chose you.
So pride yourself on your soul or through it
٤١. وَتَهَنَّ صَوْماً حُزْتَ فِي
هِ ثَوابَ مَنْ صَلَّى وَأَفْطَرْ
42. for it suffices you as pride.
And congratulate yourself on a fast
٤٢. وَبَقِيتَ ما بَقِيَ الثَّنا
ءُ عَلَيْكَ مَنْصوراً مُظَفَّرْ
