1. For whom the tree is laden with fruit 
Illusions are the ships on dry land and the mirage at sea 
١. لِمَنْ شَجَرٌ قَدْ أثْقَلَتْها ثِمارُها
 سَفائِنُ بَرٍّ وَالسَّرابُ بِحارُها
2. Letters when you recite them alone  
Lines when their train is unleashed upon them 
٢. حُرُوفٌ إِذْا اسْتَقْرَأْتَها فِي انْفِرادِها
 سُطُورٌ إِذْا اسْتَوْلى عَلَيْها قِطارُها
3. Melodies when the secret beneath them flows 
For they are arrows, their sparks take flight 
٣. حَنايا إِذْا السَّاري السَّريُّ ارْتَمى بها
 فَهُنَّ سِهامٌ يَسْتَطيرُ شَرارها
4. They came in succession, like the foam-crested waves of the sea
With domes built with tears reddened over them 
٤. تَوالَتْ كَمَوْجِ الْبَحْر مُزْبِدَةَ البُرى
 عَلَيْها قِبابٌ بِالدُّموعِ احْمِرارُها
5. In the red skullcap a white infant
The blue of whose dark eyes is guarded by its lids   
٥. وَفِي الْكِلَّةِ الْحَمْراءِ بَيْضاءُ طَفْلَةٌ
 بِزُرْقِ عُيُونِ السُّمْرِ يُحْمى أحْوِرارُها
6. The pawing of steeds raised a canopy for her
Without any screen to veil us from it 
٦. أَثارَ لَها نَقْعُ الجِيادِ سُرادِقاً
 بِهِ دونَ سِتْرِ الخِدْرِ عَنَّا اسْتِتارُها
7. She has a charm in her hair and brow 
Where her night and day intertwined 
٧. لَها طَلْعَةٌ مِنْ شَعْرِها وَجَبيِنها
 تَعانَقَ فِيها لَيْلُها وَنَهارُها
8. She has a smooth neck from the sands of Maha
She feels no shame or aversion 
٨. لَها مِن مَهاةِ الرَّمْلِ جِيدٌ مُقْلَةٌ
 وَلَيْسَ لَها اسْتِيحاشُها وَنِفارُها
9. She dwelt not in the valley of ‘Aqeeq or Ghadha  
But in my eye or heart her home 
٩. ومَا سَكَنَتْ وادِي الْعَقِيقِ وَلا الْغَضَى
 وَلكِنْ بِعَيْني أَوْ بِقَلْبيَ دارُها
10. When the Pleiades and the crescent moon come together
I doubt, are these her earrings and bracelet? 
١٠. إِذْا ما الثُّرَيَّا وَالهلالُ تَقارَنا
 أُشَكِّكُ هَلْ ذا قُرْطُها وَسِوارُها
11. What staff was it that her scarf trailed over
And what dune was too narrow for her skirt? 
١١. فَأَيُّ قَضِيبٍ جالَ فِيهِ وِشاحُها
 وَأَيُّ كَثيبٍ ضاقَ عَنْهُ إزارُها
12. I did not know before the pearls of her mouth
That the finest treasures are small 
١٢. ومَا كُنْتُ أّدْري قَبْلَ لُؤْلؤِ ثَغْرِها
 بِأَنَّ نَفيساتِ الَّلآِليْ صِغارُها
13. She is the full moon, except in my regard her fullness is waning
She is the wine, except my share of her is denied   
١٣. هِيَ الْبَدْرُ إِلاَّ أنَّ عِنْدي مَحاقَهُ
 هِيَ الْخِمْرُ إلاّ أَنَّ حَظَّيْ خُمارُها
14. O Kaaba of loveliness, around which a stone of her mole
Circumambulating and praying is far from us 
١٤. أَيا كَعْبَةً مِنْ خالِها حَجَرٌ لَها
 بَعيدٌ عَلَيْنا حَجُّها وَاعْتِمارُها
15. If her breath reaches there one day in yearning
My heart is an offering to it and my tears its ritual wash   
١٥. فَإنْ بَلَغَتْها النَّفْسُ يَوْماً بِشِقِّها
 فَقَلْبِي لَها هَدْيٌ وَدَمْعي جِمارُها
16. May God water those separated from their lovers, He already watered 
The trailing trains of clouds that never cease 
١٦. سَقَى اللَّهُ مَيَّافارِقينَ وَقَدْ سَقَى
 سِجالَ سَحابٍ لا يَغِبُّ قِطارُها
17. Why should I ask for water from the rain clouds of life  
When the sword of faith sails upon its sea 
١٧. ومَالِيَ أَسْتَسْقي لَها صَيِّبَ الحَيا
 وَراحَةُ سَيْفِ الدّينِ تَطْفُو بِحارُها
18. So in a sea of wealth her palace looked
And in a sea of water her abode was still 
١٨. فَفي بَحْرِ مالٍ قَدْ تَطَلَّعَ قَصْرُها
 وَفِي بَحْرِ ماءٍ يَسْتِقِرُّ قَرارُها
19. He is just, unjust towards wealth and enmity  
His coffers are empty and her homes desolate 
١٩. هُوَ العادِلُ الظَّلاَّمُ لِلْمالِ وَالْعِدى
 خَزائِنُهُ قَدْ أَقْفَرَتْ وَدِيارُها
20. He is generous, his soul gives freely what it contains
And most wondrous after that, his excusing it 
٢٠. كَريمٌ لَهُ نَفْسٌ تَجُودُ بِما حَوَتْ
 وَأَعْجَبُ شيْءٍ بَعْدَ ذاكَ اعْتِذارُها
21. Learned, the light of God by which his heart sees  
So the veiling of hearts could not conceal secrets from him 
٢١. عَليمٌ بِنورِ اللَّهِ يَنْظُرُ قَلْبُهُ
 فَلَمْ يُغْنِ أَسْرارَ الْقُلوبِ اسْتِتارُها
22. It is a sword whose cutting edge inspires awe
And the surface of a sword, forgiving sins 
٢٢. حُسامٌ لَهُ حَدٌّ يَرُوعُ مَضاؤُهُ
 وَصَفْحَةُ صَفْحٍ لِلذُّنُوبِ اغْتِفارُها
23. He has tranquility in peace, from which gardens are reaped
And on the day battle stirs, its fire is kindled 
٢٣. لَهُ راحَةٌ فِي السَّلْمِ تُجْنى جِنانُها
 وَيَوْمَ هِياجِ الحَرْبِ تُوقَدُ نارُها
24. So at times branches, blossoming saplings  
And at others, bloodied swords their edges bared 
٢٤. فَأنْمُلُهُ طَوراً غُصُونٌ نَواضِرٌ
 وَطَوْراً سُيُوفٌ دامِياتٌ شِفارُها
25. If he makes an address above the pulpit  
The veils of hair are black banners for him 
٢٥. إِذْا خَطَبَتْ مِن كَفِّهِ فَوْقَ مِنْبَرٍ
 فَسُودُ جَلابيبِ الشُّعورِ شِعارُها
26. Through him God destroyed the cross and its people
Through him the religion of Islam, its minarets exalted 
٢٦. بِهِ دَمَّرَ اللَّهُ الصَّليبَ وَأَهْلَهُ
 بِهِ مِلَّةُ الإسْلامِ عَالٍ مَنارُها
27. So the spheres will never cease revolving with his aid  
Neither will their axis and orbit turn from him 
٢٧. فَلا زالَتِ الأفْلاكُ تَجْرِيِ بِنَصْرِهِ
 وَلا زالَ عَنْهُ قُطبُها وَمَدارُها
