Do you complain of a heart that turns away or feels boredom? Never! The Exalted is far above boredom and turning away.

2. Is it permissible for the Lord of the Highest to resent a devotee of the Lord of the Highest?
You were a brother if time was unfaithful while being faithful.

3. If a plan went astray, your light illuminated for us,
Or if calamities were unjust, you brought justice.

4. A gentle friend to us when the days were harsh,
A truthful friend whose truth never failed despite the lies of tale-bearers.

5. So what clouded affection and caused the stream of love to cease flowing?
Your grace is the soul of the Exalted, and can any body last without its soul or find a substitute?

6. Reproach me as much as you wish, but not with this painful estrangement!
Life is short, so preserve it by seizing opportunities for wisdom.

7. Has the vicissitude of time not done enough to divide intimate friends?
What is with us that we do not see, even if they are generous, any intimacy from friends without some flaw?

8. When we are weakened by the nearness of one who is weak, it is said he has turned away.
You spurned us but will someday seek us - many a cheap thing becomes dear after scarcity makes it rare.

9. If you are bored by something in your nature, why not be bored by this boredom?
After perfect companionship, any decrease would be a defect, so beware after perfection lessening it.

10. How many friends have said to me, โ€œDo you not suffer affliction in my affection?โ€ I said โ€œYes indeed!โ€
It suffices my intimate friend with the debt of his intimacy - my glory, my grace, and my pride stand surety.

11. Any knowledge which does not clothe its companion with wisdom, you see it disabled without any fruit.
I drink bitterness to preserve the heart of my friend and leave the cup of honey for him.

12. If he denies the truth, I admit it, or if he strays, I stay balanced.
Or if he says whatever he says, I listen to him, receiving his words with joy.

13. Your merit in both worlds has no equal and has become a model among all people.
So begin with kindness, O guardian of kindness, and do not undo a knot or weave a plait!

14. O pillar of religion, you are the exemplar of sublime knowledge, the signs manifest, and son of glory!
Show me excuse for this sin of your aloofness, and attend, ashamed and embarrassed.

15. Justly resolve the issue with equity, leaving aside details and summarizations.
And excuse an ignoramus if you are envied - none become envious except for that which they are ignorant.

16. I worried about your frightening estrangement. So reconcile and dispel that worry from the heart!
Be miserly with my love, O generous one, for the openhanded are tempting game to hunt with their affection.

18. They swiftly turn to nobility by night, yet heavily away from my disgrace by day.
So be as they desire, whose intimacy in loyalty fulfills hope!
