1. He spread justice and equity upon the earth
An imam ruling by Allah's command amongst His creation

2. His existence benefits both allies and enemies
For his allies he rules, while his enemies perish

3. One whose awe makes eyes avert meeting him
Eyes look away in shyness, though he does not deviate from truth

4. Is not Allah's word regarding Yusuf the aided "Thus did We establish Yusuf in the land"
Any command not sealed by his name

5. Its execution quickly leads to annulment
And the seal securing the eternity of his rule is piety

6. Upon his kingdom a seal more majestic than excellence
With sword and spear his grasp either spreads moisture or withholds

7. Never devoid of spreading and withholding
His firm resolutions regarding events are decisive swords

8. When opinions sprout, they quickly advance by his uncovering them
With resolve deducing the secrets of fate

9. And determination unveiling the blossoms of events
An imam - whatever angers Allah, angers him

10. And whatever does not please God, does not please him
To you belongs an unbroken light connected to Muhammad's light

11. By which genealogies are illuminated with pure nobility
Your shadow stretched over east and west

12. Is extended over the length and breadth of the land
You allowed God's servants to sleep in security - leaving

13. No room for enemies' eyes to kohl themselves in winking
So the era of enemies flees into the shadows of injustice

14. While the star of loyalists rises, never to set
You made supererogation obligatory upon people until

15. They reciprocated the superfluous with the obligatory
What distinguishes right from wrong in existence

16. Is none but your love in obeying Allah and hatred
You raised the banner of religion as justice - so its people

17. Attained honor in exaltation and life in humility
A miser is like the frequent, yet scarce, drizzle

18. Chests narrow towards it when clouds appear
Accustomed is the enemy's slander to dive in fires

19. When the tongues of nightly gossip stimulate the flames
When their slippers are worn out, they are replaced

20. With shoes they are pleased with however cracked
Their horses' hooves desired prey, for they would

21. Kohl themselves with its dust when stirred
Your steeds sprouted from noble breed

22. And your opinions made needless the common and crude
Your enemy is outcast in confused ignorance

23. Having met endless torrents of your punishment
Your punishment exhausted him, so he turned around

24. Retreating backwards, unable to advance
In the heart of your critic is fright making it palpitate

25. And from the heat of fever you see the quickening pulse
Not even the bolts of your justice were sincere

26. When the flashes of injustice sparked deceitfully
And he lives to give life to every truth you judged

27. For who else restored what was rightfully religion's debt?
A minister bearing the burdens of kingdoms

28. When the perfect pillar is unable to stand
One who fragments the united heedless of God

29. And unites the united heedless of Him
With resolve like the sharpened sword taken out

30. You unsheathe it to remove the garb of dust
I hoped in the commander of the faithful, hopes of one

31. Whose every aim leads to the fulfilment of his hopes
And complained to him of afflictions, tribulations

32. My bodily pains are fixed, while my sorrows ebb and flow
If adverse circumstance wound me, the fang of an adder

33. Does it not know my nature is a cross unto biting?
It incites cravings for fortunes I have lost

34. When fortune does not avail, avarice is useless
Obliging safety, it obliges me frugality and restraint

35. It speaks truthfully that moderation and piety
Protect my religion and honor in both domains

36. It says "Why pursuit of sustenance anxiously
When your provision is predestined and lifetime fleeting?

37. If sustenance was through striving, the wealthy's wealth
Would not be intelligible, nor the poor's poverty

38. If this sea was turbulent in its waves
Why would I covet shells fragments on the shore?"

39. Your era sufficed me honor, though I wore
The garb ofabasement in a withered time

40. My tongue and heart are loyal to you, though parts
Of me resent each other in dichotomy

41. In praising you, you have blackened me in creation
So I have come with a face whitened by loyalty to you

42. Not all poetry equals mine about you
Who compares the frail twig to the towering oak?
