1. Plead to God, do not plead to people,
And be content with despair, for glory is in despair,
١. اِضرَع إِلى اللَهِ لا تَضرَع إِلى الناسِ
وَاِقنَع بِيَأسٍ فَإِنَّ العِزَّ في الياسِ
2. And do without all kin and family,
Indeed, the rich is the one who can do without people,
٢. وَاِستَغنِ عَن كُلِّ ذي قُربى وَذي رَحِمٍ
إِنَّ الغَنِيَّ مَنِ اِستَغنى عَنِ الناسِ
3. For sustenance comes by fate until an appointed time,
In the hand of One who is neither unaware of me nor forgetful,
٣. فَالرِزقُ عَن قَدَرٍ يَجري إِلى أَجَلٍ
في كَفِّ لا غافِلَ عَنّي وَلا ناسي
4. So how can I buy present poverty with riches?
And how can I seek my needs from people?
٤. فَكَيفَ أَبتاعُ فَقراً حاضِراً بِغِنىً
وَكَيفَ أَطلُبُ حاجاتي مِنَ الناسِ
